Renegade to Invade Pittsburgh for 15th Annual "Pittsburgher 100"
IMPERIAL, PA - Race teams from near and far are gearing up for the 15th Annual Renegade DirtCar Series sanctioned "FROGGY" Pittsburgher 100 weekend set for September 18, 19, 20 and 21 at Pittsburgh's Pennsylvania Motor Speedway. 2002 defending "Pittsburgher 100" winner, Rick Aukland, of Zanesville OH, is entered and looking for a repeat win, while current points leader, Chub Frank of Bear Lake PA, hopes not only to win the event, but also to clinch his fourth consecutive Renegade DirtCar Racing Series point championship. All the top local drivers plus the Renegade series regulars will be shooting for a starting spot and a share of the $80,000 purse. Past winners of the "Pittsburgher 100" are Scott Bloomquist (3 times), Davey Johnson (3 times), Tim Hitt (2 times), Rick Aukland (2 times), Chub Frank, Todd Andrews, Donnie Moran, and Bob Wearing Jr. Only two drivers, Chub Frank and Mike Balzano, have made the starting field of every Pittsburgher.
The jam-packed four-day event begins with a practice session for all racing divisions on Thursday, September 18, and ends Sunday, September 21st with the $22,000 to win, 100-lap feature. Sandwiched in between is a complete racing program on Friday, September 19, which will be highlighted by a pair of 25-lap features (Twin 25's) for the Late Models. In keeping with Friday "Pittsburgher" tradition, the area's Pure Stock competitors have been invited to participate in the 5th Annual Pittsburgher Pure Stock 30-lap special invitational sponsored by Stan Hover Racing. The Limited Late Models, E-mods, and Amateur Stocks are also on Friday's racing card. Pit gates open at 5:00pm, general admission gates open at 6:00pm, and racing will begin at 7:30pm.
On Saturday, the pit gates open at 11:00am, and grandstand gates open at noon. The menu consists of several sessions of warm-ups for the late models commencing at 2:30pm. Time trials and qualifying heat races for the Renegade DirtCar Racing Series will get underway at 4:00pm. Sharing the spotlight with the Late Models are the exciting E-Mods, who will be featured in a 25-lap special race, and the Pure Stocks will be back as part of Saturday's race program as well. The live band "Gunslinger" will perform for the race fans and campers after the races.
All gates open at 11:00am on Sunday, and race fans will get a chance to meet their favorite drivers up close and personal during a special driver autograph session that will start at 1:00pm. Renegade warm-ups are scheduled for 3:00pm. The B-Mains and dash will get underway at 4:00pm, and the running of the 15th Annual Pittsburgher 100 will follow.
Free admission is offered in the grandstands for the 6:30 to 10:00pm Thursday night practice session. Gates open Thursday at 5:00pm and pit passes are $15.00. The admission for Friday's special race program is $20.00 for adults, kids 13-16 are $15.00, children 7-12 are $5.00, and children under 7 are free. Pit admission is $30.00
Two-day (Saturday/Sunday) adult general admission tickets are $40.00, children ages 9-14 are $9.00 each day, children under age 9 are free, and two-day (Saturday/Sunday) pit admission is $50.00. Saturday only adult general admission tickets are $25.00 and Saturday only pit admission tickets are $30.00. Sunday only adult general admission tickets are $40.00, and Sunday only pit admission tickets are $50.00.
