PITTSBURGH, PA (April 5, 2006) –  April 1st marked the day the first laps of  2006 were completed at Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway when a successful open practice session was held at the Miley Motorsports facility near Imperial.  That out of the way, the stage is now set for the green flag to officially drop for the start of the 18th season of exciting stock car racing on Dirt’s Monster Half Mile.  The season opener begins Saturday, April 8 at 7:00pm sharp for the Late Models, Crate Late Models, E-Modifieds, Pure Stocks, Amateur Stocks, and the debut of the new 4-cylinder teen division “The Young Guns”.  Grandstand gates open at 5:00, warm-ups will get underway around 6:00 pm and qualifying heat races will start off the six division program at 7:00.  Lincoln Welders is providing the first 500 race fans with free Tony Stewart Nextel Cup full color schedule posters.


An exciting and aggressive schedule of events has been put together by Miley Motorsports for 2006.  Weekly racing will continue every Saturday until May 27 when the first special event takes place.  The popular Twin 20’s for the Late Models will take center stage along with a complete program for the other weekly divisions.  Two “Topless Tuesday” specials will bring the fans to the Monster Half Mile on June 20 and July 25 to witness the thrilling topless action of the high powered Late Models and the Crate Late Models.  E-Mods, Pure Stocks, Amateur Stocks and Young Guns will also be in action.  Both shows carry a Wednesday raindate.  Two exciting BONUS Weekends are on tap for PPMS, the first scheduled for Saturday, July 8 which will serve as a tune-up for SUNDAY’s Late Model Penn National 40, a 40-lap $4000 to win special!  The second BONUS weekend is slated for Saturday, August 12 and SUNDAY, August 13 when the Late Models will be competing in the Annual Garin Memorial, a 40-lap $4000 to win event!  Both bonus weekends include all other racing divisions on Sundays as well as the tune-up Saturday programs.  Specials for the E-Mods, Pure Stocks and the Crate Late Models are also planned for ‘06, plus the popular Demo Derby will cap off the Saturday stock car programs on June 24 and July 29.  For the 18th consecutive year, the racing season will conclude with the running of the Pittsburgher 100 weekend of events.  This year’s Pittsburgher weekend takes place September 21, 22 and 23 with a raindate set for Sunday, September 24 if needed.
