Youth Movement Continues at PPMS While Veteran Ben Miley Makes His Return to Victory Lane
PITTSBURGH, PA (July 8, 2006) - Venetia PA’s Ben Miley drove a flawless non-stop 25 laps to win his first Late Model feature in a couple of years. For Miley it was career PPMS win 53. Miley used a front row starting spot to take the lead at the outset and spent most of the race holding off a persistent Lynn Geisler. Steve Baker used his “WV Rim Rider” nickname to the fullest extent as he ran the highest line possible to earn a strong third, and was closing fast on the front two at the finish. Dave Wade dropped back in the field early, rallied in the later stages to get fourth, with Tony Musolino running a strong fifth. Rounding out the top ten finishers were Mike Davis, Mike Johnson, Keith Barbara, Keith Rodriguez, and Jared Miley. Mike Davis and Keith Barbara grabbed the heat victories.
Young Jason Rider of Clinton, PA grabbed his third Advance Auto Parts Crate Late Model feature in his rookie season. Rider drove a smooth race taking the lead from early leader Pete Rech at the halfway point and never looked back. Rech ran a strong second, followed by Mike Cecere, Larry Marks, Tom Schirnoffer Jr., Bruce Takach, Kyle Lukon, Neil Isiminger (in the Laura Lukon #04), Leo Stadelman, and John Cain. The two heats saw Tom Schirnhofer Jr., and Bruce Takach pick up wins.
In the Lincoln Welder E-Mods 16-year-old Jacob Hawkins of Fairmont, WV, in only his second appearance, grabbed his first PPMS win. Hawkins drove a steady race holding off a mid race challenge from Kevin Miller, to take the victory. Wayne Tessean finished third with Kari Gasser in fourth followed by Mike Basich, Dennis Niederriter, J.E. Stalder, Chuck Kennedy, Tom Martineck, and Dale Charlier. Kevin Miller and Chris Basich drove to the heat victories.
Craig Kamicker of Hopewell, PA took his fourth win of 2006 in the WGBN Pure Stocks. Kamicker took the lead on lap 6, and held off the red hot Jake Simmons for the win. Early leader Jeff Broniszewski was third followed by Joe Anthony, Charlie DiLoreto, Bill Robertson, Aaron Jones, Ron O’Patchen, Nick Kocuba, and A.J. Poljak to round out the top ten finishers. The two heats saw Joe Anthony and Aaron Jones take wins.
Pittsburgh Pa’s Eric Goldberg stormed to his second win of the season in the Amateur Stocks. Goldberg took the lead on lap 2 and was never headed. Davy Lee ran second, followed by Adam Chytil. Robby Torrens took fourth, with Todd Evans, Travis Gatten, Terry Kerr, Jason Herniak, newcomer J.J. O’Patchen, and Jeff Schell following. The heats fell to Eric Goldberg, and Adam Chytil.
