Pittsburgh Pennsylvania Motor Speedway

Laboon event to be continued July 9

Imperial, PA (June 4, 2016) -- Rain halted the racing program at Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway on Saturday night, forcing the balance of the racing program to be canceled. Rain checks will be honored at future events.

The highlight of the program was the Fifth Annual Ed Laboon Memorial race for the Sunoco Race Fuels Sportsman division, which will be continued at a later date. A field of 52 cars had completed time trials and six qualifying heats before the rain. The top three finishers from the six heat races are locked into the top 18 starting positions for the feature, with the heat winners running a dash to set the first six starting spots. Three B-Mains will set the remainder of the field, and new cars will have the option of adding in to the event behind the returning drivers. Chris Schneider was the fastest qualifier with a lap of 21.075, and won Heat 1. The other heat race winners were Corey McPherson, Andy Buckley, Todd Weldon, Brent Johnson, and Rusty Moore. The resumption date for the $3,017 to win main event will be announced when it is available. There will also be a non-qualifiers race for the event sanctioned by the Homak Penn-Ohio Pro Stocks.

Keith Barbara and John Mollick were the heat race winners for the Diehl Automotive Super Late Models, while Kyle Lukon and Mollick won the heats for the Precise Racing Products RUSH Pro Late Models. Bob Bentz was the heat winner for the Miley BP Car Wash Hobby Stocks. The Imperial Heights Garage Young Guns were on the track for their main event when the rain hit. With the cancellation, these divisions will earn points per track rules for the events that they had completed, and with rain checks being honored, their events will not be made up.

Racing continues at Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway on Saturday night, June 11, with the running of the Fourth Annual Herb Scott Memorial race. The UFo Race Championship will sanction the event for the Diehl Automotive Super Late Models, with the 41-lap main event paying $4,000 to the winner. The Pro Late Models, Sportsman, Hobby Stocks, and Young Guns will also be in competition. Gates open at 5:00, with warm-ups at 6:00 and racing at 7:00.
