WINGED 410 SPRINTS JOIN PPMS ON SATURDAY
Imperial, PA (June 15, 2016) The winged 410 sprint cars, the fastest cars in dirt track racing, will join the Saturday night racing program at Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway. $2,000 will go to the winner of the sprint car feature on Saturday, June 18, as all five regular divisions will also be in competition.
This will be the first of four sprint car events this season, and the first of two races for the winged 410 sprints. This Saturday’s event will be a tune-up for the Third Annual Falconi’s Moon Township Automotive “Sprint Monster,” featuring Tony Stewart’s Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions on Saturday, July 30. Traditional sprint cars, the non-winged variety, make a visit on Saturday, July 2, as the Mo Vaughn Transport Buckeye Outlaw Sprint Series visits on “One dollar hot dog night” presented by Berks/Nickles. The other sprint car event is for the limited engine Alternative Power Sources LHSS Race Saver winged Sprints, on Saturday, July 23.
The weather during the 2016 season has not been kind to the speedway, as last Saturday’s event was just the second fully completed event of the season of the six that have been scheduled. Three time defending track champion Alex Ferree of Saxonburg highlighted the evening by winning the Fourth Annual Herb Scott Memorial race for the Diehl Automotive Super Late Models. 2009 champion Brandon Burgoon from McDonald is the current point leader by a single point over 2005 champion John Flinner from Zelienople. Opening night winner Christian Schneider from Robinson Township is third in points, 7 out of the lead, with Toronto, OH driver John Mollick just three points behind. Butch Neubert from Adena, OH is fifth in points.
Burgettstown’s Kyle Lukon has three track championships to his credit and currently leads the point standings in the Precise Racing Products RUSH Pro Late Models. His lead is small, as just three points behind is a tie for second between Ben Policz from Rices Landing and opening night feature winner Daryl Charlier of Midway. Another tie in the standings is for fourth, seven points out of the lead, between Justin Lamb of Coraopolis and Steve Beatty of Allison Park, in the highly competitive division. Saturday night’s winner John Mollick is close behind.
Todd Weldon from Monongahela has a commanding lead in the standings for the Sunoco Race Fuels Sportsman division, on the strength of winning both feature events held this season. His lead is 22 points over Dave McManus from Elizabeth, with Nick Kocuba from Imperial just two points behind.
Casey Grumling from Elizabeth leads Dale Tuche of Cheswick by a single point in the Miley BP Car Wash Hobby Stock division. Karlee Kovacs from Carnegie earned her first feature win in the division on Saturday night. Two time feature winner Michael Jackson of South Park leads the way in the Imperial Heights Garage Young Guns.
With the high speed winged sprint cars joining the Saturday night racing program, the gates will open at 5:00, with warm-ups at 6:00 and racing at 7:00. The Super Late Models, Pro Late Models, Sportsman, Hobby Stocks, and Young Guns will also be in competition. There will be no racing on June 25, but the BOSS non-winged Sprints will join the five weekly divisions for the July 2 racing program. The track is located just south of the Noblestown exit of U.S. Route 22, or 170 Kelso Road in Imperial, PA, for GPS purposes. The track phone is 724-695-3363 on race days, or call 412-279-RACE.
