AUGUST IS A BUSY MONTH AT PPMS

Imperial, PA (August 3, 2016)  A busy month of August at Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway kicks off on Saturday, August 6, as the Diehl Automotive Super Late Models will return to highlight the racing program with seven racing divisions in competition.  The Alternative Power Sources Laurel Highlands Sprint Series Race Saver winged 305 Sprints will be joining the program, as their appearance has been rescheduled after being canceled by rain on July 23.  The Sunoco Race Fuels Sportsman will compete in the “Cruise America PENNational,” paying $1000 to winner in the event sanctioned by the Homak Penn Ohio Pro Stock Series.  Also on the card will be the Precise Racing Products RUSH Pro Late Models, Miley BP Car Wash Hobby Stocks, and Imperial Heights Garage Young Guns.  While the Young Gun class is an age limited division competing in Four Cylinder cars, this night will also see the addition of an open Four Cylinder division where competition will be open to all drivers.  It will be Pittsburgh Circle Track Club Night, where Club members will be guests of the speedway.

Coming up on Saturday, August 13, it will be Sherwin Williams Night.  The RUSH Modifieds will be back for their third of four visits this season with the Super Late Models, Pro Late Models, Sportsman, Hobby Stocks, Young Guns, and Open Four Cylinders, as Rosedale Tech Students will be admitted free.  On Saturday, August 20, Colussy Chevrolet presents Nostalgia Night, with Kids Bike Races, as AAA Members receive a $5 discount on admission.  Super Late Models, Pro Late Models, Sportsman, Hobby Stocks, Young Guns, and Open Four Cylinders will be joined by the CarSmile Wiperblades “Thunder on the Dirt” Vintage Racing Series.  Rounding out the month of August on the 27th will be the Tenth Annual Red Miley Rumble for the Super Late Models, sanctioned by the UFo Race Championship, plus Pro Late Models, Sportsman, Hobby Stocks, and Young Guns.  Two events in September will round out the point racing season, before the season ending 28th Annual Pittsburgher 100 for the Lucas Oil Late Model Series on October 7-8.

Last Saturday’s visit by Tony Stewart’s All Star Circuit of Champions Sprints was an exhausting day.  After heavy morning rains, the track crew went to work and produced a lightning fast and smooth racing surface.  However, with the lightning fast surface came the return of lightning as a part of a strong thunderstorm, which would send the large crowd home early and disappointed.  Track officials are still in talks with the All Stars about a possible makeup date.

The Diehl Automotive Super Late Models have a very close battle for the season long point championship with five point races remaining.  Brandon Burgoon leads John Flinner by just two points for the division lead.  The best point battle at the track is in the Precise Racing Products RUSH Pro Late Models.  With six race nights remaining, Daryl Charlier leads the standings by six points over Ben Policz and Justin Lamb, who are tied for second in the standings.  Just two points behind them the most recent feature winner John Mollick, who leads the class with three victories.  In the Sunoco Race Fuels Sportsman division, Dave McManus is the current point leader by 18 points over Ricky Stigerwald.  A large field of cars is expected for Saturday night’s $1000 to win “Cruise America PENNational” for the popular Homak Penn Ohio Pro Stock Series.  In the Miley BP Car Wash Hobby Stock division, Dale Tuche leads Casey Grumling by ten points.  Michael Jackson leads Ben Anton in the Imperial Heights Garage Young Guns by 13 points.

The Alternative Power Sources Laurel Highlands Sprint Series have been rescheduled for this Saturday night after being canceled by rain on July 23.  It will be the third appearance at the track for the Race Saver winged Sprints 305 cubic inch powered cars.  Two visits in 2015 saw Jake Gomola win on May 9, and the September 6 victory went to Ralph Engel, Jr. Despite the cars being powered by limited engines, they are not short on speed.  The track record for the division was set in the September race by Tyler Denochick on lap 2 of Heat 1, circling the speedway in 17.963 seconds, an average lap speed of over 125 miles per hour.

For Saturday night’s racing program, the gates will open at 5:00, with warm-ups at 6:00 and racing at 7:00.  The track is located west of the city of Pittsburgh, just south of the Noblestown exit of U.S. Route 22, or 170 Kelso Road in Imperial, PA, for GPS purposes.  The track phone is 724-695-3363 on race days, or call 412-279-RACE.  For complete information please visit the track website at www.ppms.com .
