SHERWIN WILLIAMS NIGHT UP NEXT, BIG RACES ON THE HORIZON AT PPMS

SHERWIN WILLIAMS NIGHT UP NEXT, BIG RACES ON THE HORIZON AT PPMS

Imperial, PA (August 10, 2016)  Sherwin Williams Night is up next at Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway on Saturday, August 13.  All five regular divisions will be in competition, as there will be point races for the Diehl Automotive Super Late Models, Precise Racing Products RUSH Pro Late Models, Sunoco Race Fuels Sportsman, Miley BP Car Wash Hobby Stocks, and Imperial Heights Garage Young Guns.  In addition, the RUSH Modifieds will be back for their third of four visits this season.    While the Young Gun class is an age limited division competing in Four Cylinder cars, this night will also see the addition of an open Four Cylinder division where competition will be open to all drivers.  Rosedale Tech Students will be admitted free.

On Saturday, August 20, it will be Nostalgia Night, presented by Colussy Chevrolet.  There will be Kids Bike Races, as AAA Members receive a $5 discount on general admission.  The Super Late Models, Pro Late Models, Sportsman, Hobby Stocks, Young Guns, and Open Four Cylinders will be joined by the CarSmile Wiperblades “Thunder on the Dirt” Vintage Racing Series, racing their restored cars of yesteryear.

Rounding out the month of August 27 will be the Tenth Annual Red Miley Rumble for the Super Late Models, sanctioned by the UFo Race Championship.  The 35 lap event will pay $3,053 to the winner, as the Pro Late Models, Sportsman, Hobby Stocks, and Young Guns will also share the card.

A special program of racing will be presented on Saturday, September 3.  The Late Models will have the night off, but taking their place will be the winged 410 Sprints, the fastest cars in dirt track racing.  The Sportsman, Hobby Stocks, and Young Guns will be on the card, and the RUSH Modifieds will make their fourth and final appearance of 2016.  Highlighting the program on this night will be the RUSH Pro Late Models with the running of the biggest crate late model race in the history of PPMS, the 27th annual Jook George Steel City Fall Classic. The winner of this event will win a whopping $4,050. A strong field of cars is expected including RUSH touring points top runner John Waters of Whitesville, NY leading the invaders against the strong field of PPMS crate drivers, led by current points leader Daryl Charlier of Midway, PA.

Branden Lockwich has been working hard to obtain contributions to make this a great event for all the teams involved.  His efforts have been assisted by PPMS RUSH Pro Late Model driver Ben Policz. Between the two, they have generated over an additional $10,000 to be added to the purse led by an $8,000 donation from an anonymous individual in loving memory of Jook George.

“I really wanted to make this year’s edition of the Jook George Fall Classic the best one yet,” stated Lockwich. “Jook was a car owner for a long time and he had some great drivers in his cars, and he left us way too soon.  I have to thank Ben as well, he has been a huge help to me.  I think this will be a great event.  I'm expecting to see a good field of cars with the payout through the field.  The PPMS teams are always tough, so to watch them go against the invaders should make for a great night of action.

“There is still time to get involved,” Branden continued.  “Everything that is collected will go into the purse. If anyone individual or team would like to contribute to this event, I can be reached at blockwich@gmail.com or if they are at the track, they can see Ben in the pits.”

“Through the efforts of several different individuals at PPMS, the Jook George Fall Classic has shaped up to be the richest RUSH Dirt Late Model events in the region this season,” said RUSH Racing director Vicki Emig.  “I personally remember Jook George and I know he would be very proud and honored to know that he will be remembered with such a great event!  All of those involved in raising the extra purse, along the individuals and businesses that have contributed are to be commended and I know RUSH racers from throughout the region are looking forward to supporting their efforts!”

Point racing ends for the season on Saturday, September 10 with Diehl Automotive Night featuring Driver Autographs.  All five regular divisions will be in competition as the Willie White Memorial is in the planning stages for the Sportsman division.

While point racing ends on September 10, the season is certainly not over.  On Friday and Saturday, October 7 and 8, it will be the running of the 28th Annual Pittsburgher 100, featuring the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series, as the 100 lap race will pay $20,000 to the winner.  A RUSH Dirt Late Model Touring Series Marquee event, and the Sportsman/Pro Stock Showdown will send the 2016 racing season out in style.

With his feature win on Saturday night, Brandon Burgoon stretched his Diehl Automotive Super Late Model point lead to nine points over John Flinner.  Daryl Charlier also extended his point lead in the Precise Racing Products RUSH Pro Late Models by winning Saturday’s feature, as it is now 14 points over John Mollick, with Ben Policz and Justin Lamb tied for third just two points behind Mollick.  In the Sunoco Race Fuels Sportsman division, Dave McManus is the current point leader by 13 points over Ricky Stigerwald.  In the Miley BP Car Wash Hobby Stock division, Dale Tuche leads Casey Grumling by seven points.  Michael Jackson leads Ben Anton in the Imperial Heights Garage Young Guns by 11 points.

For Saturday night’s racing program, the gates will open at 5:00, with warm-ups at 6:00 and racing at 7:00.  Keep an eye on all developments during race nights on the track’s Twitter account at @PAMotorSpeedway including starting and finishing race lineups.  The track is located west of the city of Pittsburgh, just south of the Noblestown exit of U.S. Route 22, or 170 Kelso Road in Imperial, PA, for GPS purposes.  The track phone is 724-695-3363 on race days, or call 412-279-RACE.  For complete information please visit the track website at www.ppms.com .
