Chris Schneider wins inaugural Wee Willie White Memorial
for Immediate Release October 9, 2016 (Sandy Lake, PA) The Homak Penn Ohio Pro Stocks did not see any track time on Friday night at PPMS due to persistent, periodic rain throughout the evening. However, racing was in full swing on Saturday, October 8, 2016, combining both Friday and Saturday’s schedule. The Homak Penn Ohio Pro Stocks kicked off the non-point event with hot laps, followed by group qualifying, heat races, a 6-lap dash, and a 25-lap feature memorializing “Wee” Willie White. Chris Schneider was the sixth-fastest qualifier, picked up the heat win, finished in second place in the dash, and ended the evening in victory lane with the $2,055 check presented by the Willie White Family. Dash Winner, Todd Weldon, and Chris Schneider led the 24-car field to start the Homak Penn Ohio Pro Stock Series’ 25 lap feature for the Willie White Memorial. The yellow quickly waved for Mark Rozum’s #0 in turn 2. A second try at the start was unsuccessful and the leaders were penalized, moving them to the third and fourth starting spots. The start penalty put Daryl Charlier on the pole with Christian Schneider outside pole on the restart. Daryl Charlier quickly jumped into the lead with Chris Schneider finding the second spot on lap 2, while Christian Schneider, Todd Weldon, and Corey McPhearson battled closely for the third through fifth positions. Chris Schneider kept Charlier in his sights and inherited the lead on lap 7 when Charlier experienced mechanical woes, pulling into the pits. The battle behind Chris Schneider continued to intensify between Christian Schneider, Weldon, and McPhearson, while Bill Robertson and Bobby Whitling battled for fifth. Weldon was able to take over the second spot on lap 9 and began to reel Schneider in as they began working through lap traffic on lap 12. The caution flag flew for Garrett Calvert before the 15th lap was completed, bunching the field up giving Weldon an opportunity to take the lead from Schneider. The restart found Schneider back in the top spot with Weldon in tow. It appeared that Weldon had the car to beat Schneider, but mechanical issues had Weldon slowing on the back stretch with just 3 laps left. Not only did the caution flag fly for Weldon on the back stretch, it waved for fifth-place runner, Bill Robertson, on the front stretch. Both drivers pulled to the pits and did not return for the remaining three laps. The restart found Chris Schneider and Christian Schneider on the front row. Chris was just too strong and cruised the last three laps to victory lane. Christian held on to finish second, followed by Whitling in third, McPhearson in fourth and Bob Schwartzmiller for fifth. Rounding out the top ten were Erie Piotrowski, Joey Zambotti, Nick Kocuba, Vince Laboon, and Bob Egley. Heat race winner were Charlier, McPhearson, and Chris Schneider. Daryl Charlier was fastest qualifier with a 21.723 time. Homak Penn Ohio Pro Stock Championship PPMS Wee Willie White Memorial, October 8, 2016 (25 laps, $2,055 to-win) 1. *Chris Schneider (55) 2.
