Big Races In August At PPMS

The three top classes in competition at Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway all have big races scheduled as the calendar flips to August.   First up is the Sunoco Sportsman class with the next racing program on Saturday, August 5, as a part of an “Action Event.”  The Second Annual Wee Willie White Memorial will be run, as the Homak Manufacturing Penn Ohio Pro Stock Series will be visiting.  The race will pay $1000 to the winner.  If the car count is over 40, there will be a $300 to win non-qualifiers race.  It will be Chartiers Valley School Race Night, as there will be point racing for the Precise Racing Products RUSH Late Models, Super6 Late Models, Miley Truck Rental Hobby Stocks, Imperial Heights Garage Young Guns, and CruiseAmerica Open Fours.

The Precise Racing Products RUSH Late Models will take top billing on Saturday, August 12, for their biggest race of the season.  The 28th Annual Jook George Steel City Classic will be run, as the Sweeney Chevrolet RUSH Dirt Late Model Series will be visiting.  Thanks to the hard work of Branden Lockwich, the race will pay $4010 to the winner.  Also on the card will be the Sunoco Sportsman, Super6 Late Models, Miley Truck Rental Hobby Stocks, Imperial Heights Garage Young Guns, and CruiseAmerica Open Fours.

The speedway will not be in action Saturday, August 19, but racing will return on August 26 as the Diehl Automotive Super Late Models return for the running of the 11th Annual Red Miley Rumble.  It will be the third and final race for the Diehl Automotive Super Series which determines provisional starting positions for the season ending Pittsburgher 100.  There will be weekly point racing for the Precise Racing Products RUSH Late Models, Sunoco Sportsman, Super6 Late Models, Miley Truck Rental Hobby Stocks, Imperial Heights Garage Young Guns, and CruiseAmerica Open Fours.   The Ultimate NE sanctioning has been dropped for this event.

Justin Lamb passed Daryl Charlier to take the point lead in the Precise Racing Products RUSH Late Models, as he now has a five point lead.  Lamb also leads the division’s Sizzler Series points by 12 over Charlier, as last week’s Twin 20’s counted towards both point chases.  Dave McManus leads the way in the Sunoco Sportsman standings, by 15 over A.J. Poljak with Danny Rich just two points behind.  Karlee Kovacs leads Stephen Shelpman by six points in the Miley Truck Rental Hobby Stocks, with Casey Grumling just two points behind.  The Imperial Heights Garage Young Guns have Ben Anton with a six point lead over Kayla McManus.  In the CruiseAmerica Open Fours, Matthew Rubright leads Tom Anton by ten points.

The 2017 fuels incentive continues to race on at Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway.  Sponsored by Brian Bazell of Bazell Race Fuels, the fuel incentive program is open to each week to any race team in the RUSH Late Models and Sunoco Sportsman division.  To be entered, teams must purchase at least five gallons of fuel at the track to be eligible, plus carry a Sunoco decal.  The highest finishing car that is entered and eligible will earn five gallons of the fuel that they purchased.  Winners for last Saturday’s racing program were Colton Flinner in the RUSH Late Models and Bill Robertson in the Sunoco Sportsman.
