Pittsburgh Pennsylvania Motor Speedway

Senior Nite $5 off, Jook George Steel City Classic Next At PPMS

The biggest race of the season for the Precise Racing Products RUSH Late Models takes place this Saturday, August 12, at Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway.  The 28th Annual Jook George Steel City Classic will take place, as the Sweeney Chevrolet RUSH Dirt Late Model Series will be visiting.  Thanks to the hard work of Branden Lockwich, the race will pay $4010 to the winner.  Also on the card will be the Sunoco Sportsman, Super6 Late Models, Miley Truck Rental Hobby Stocks, Imperial Heights Garage Young Guns, and CruiseAmerica Open Fours.
It will be Senior Night, with Seniors receiving a $5 discount on General Admission.  In addition, if a Senior brings their grandchildren that are 12 or under, they will be admitted free of charge.

Bill Yakin won the inaugural Jook George Classic in 1990, and backed it up with wins in 1991 and 1993.  Mike Johnson won the event in 1992, with the 1994 victory going to Rich Curry.  Mel Minnick, Jr. was the 1995 winner, foillowed by Jasson Cisson in 1996.  Dave Wade captured the first of his three wins in the annual event in 1997, also in 1998 and 2000, with Jim Stephans winning the 1999 running.  The first part of the 2000 decade had different winners each year, with victories going to Brian Laraway in 2001, Gary Cellone in 2002, Bobby Castlevetter in 2003, Pete Loria in 2004, Brandon Burgoon in 2005, and Tommy Schirnhofer in 2006.  Kyle Lukon backed up his 2007 win with one in 2012.  Mike Pegher, Jr. has three wins in the event, in 2008, 2009, and 2011.  Dan Angelicchio won the 2010 race, as Daryl Charlier won in 2014.  Colton Flinner has two victories in the event, winning in 2013 and 2015.  Mike Reft is the defending race champion.

The local contingent of drivers will be battling the top drivers of the RUSH Touring Series.  The current track points could not be any closer, with Justin Lamb and Charlier tied atop the standings and both looking for their first title in the division.  Charlier has a pair of E-Mod titles at the track.  Charlier and John Mollick each have three feature wins at the track this season, as single victories have gone to Steve Beatty, Lamb, Reft, Ben Policz, Kyle Lee, and Pegher.  Bryce Davis leads the RUSH Touring points over John Waters, Jeremy Wonderling, Jason Knowles, and Brian Knowles.  Waters has already visited this season, and nearly won that event, finishing a close second.

“We expect to have a strong field of cars for this event,” said Branden Lockwich, who has taken the event under his wing.  “I have gotten good feedback from both the RUSH Touring drivers and the local drivers about this event and payout.  This is going to be a ‘must see’ show for the fans.  I believe this will be the highest to win paying crate late model race in the Mid-Atlantic Region this year.  Super Late Model hot shoes Russ King and Mike Pegher, Jr. have indicated that they plan to be in competition at the event.  There will be time trials to determine heat race starting positions, plus a dash and B-Main events to round out the starting field for the 40 lap main event.”

While Saturday’s program will most likely break the tie for the division point lead between Lamb and Charlier, other point races will also continue.  Dave McManus leads the way in the Sunoco Sportsman standings, as Danny Rich took over second place in the standings just seven points out of the lead, with A.J. Poljak 13 behind him.  Karlee Kovacs leads Casey Grumling by 11 points in the Miley Truck Rental Hobby Stocks.  The Imperial Heights Garage Young Guns have Ben Anton with a nine point lead over Kayla McManus.  In the CruiseAmerica Open Fours, Matthew Rubright leads Tom Anton by 15 points.

The speedway will not be in action on Saturday, August 19, but racing will return on August 26 as the Diehl Automotive Super Late Models return for the running of the 11th Annual Red Miley Rumble.  It will be the third and final race for the Diehl Automotive Super Series which determines provisional starting positions for the season ending Pittsburgher 100.  There will be weekly point racing for the Precise Racing Products RUSH Late Models, Sunoco Sportsman, Super6 Late Models, Miley Truck Rental Hobby Stocks, Imperial Heights Garage Young Guns, and CruiseAmerica Open Fours.   The Ultimate NE sanctioning has been dropped for this event.  Florida driver Mark Whitener is planning on making the trip to race in the Red Miley Rumble.

The 2017 fuels incentive continues to race on at Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway.  Sponsored by Brian Bazell of Bazell Race Fuels, the fuel incentive program is open to each week to any race team in the RUSH Late Models and Sunoco Sportsman division.  To be entered, teams must purchase at least five gallons of fuel at the track to be eligible, plus carry a Sunoco decal.  The highest finishing car that is entered and eligible will earn five gallons of the fuel that they purchased.  Winners for last Saturday’s racing program were Mike Reft in the RUSH Late Models and Danny Rich in the Sunoco Sportsman.

For all racing programs, the gates open at 5:00 PM, with warm-ups at 6:00 PM and racing at 7:00 PM.  Follow us on Facebook at @PAMotorSpeedway or on Twitter at @PAMotorSpeedway for timely information updates.  The Twitter account is used extensively on race nights for live updates.  Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway is located west of the city of Pittsburgh, just south of the Noblestown exit of U.S. Route 22, or 170 Kelso Road in Imperial, PA, for GPS purposes.  The track phone is 412-279-RACE.  For complete information including ticket pricing information, please visit the track website at www.ppms.com .
