Pittsburgh Pennsylvania Motor Speedway

Preliminary Events Complete For Pittsburgher At PPMS

The Qualifying events for the 29th Annual Pittsburgher were completed on Friday night at Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway.

In the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series, the 35 cars were divided into two groups.  Don O’Neal established a new track record in turning the fastest lap in Group A with a lap of 16.919.  Mike Marlar was fastest in Group B at 17.025.  The four heat races were won by O’Neal, Mike Norris, Marlar, and Josh Richards.  The top four finishers locked into Saturday’s Pittsburgher 100, with the remaining starters to come from Saturday’s B-Mains.

The Sweeney Chevrolet RUSH Dirt Late Model Marquee Series also brought a 35 car field, with John Waters setting the fastest lap at 19.349.  The four qualifying heats were won by Waters, Bryce Davis, Daryl Charlier, and Kyle Lukon.  The Dash for the top two finishers from each heat will lead off tomorrow’s program, followed by a pair of B-Mains, to round out the starting field for tomorrow’s Bill Hendren Memorial race.  The top five heat finishers qualified for the main event.

There were 23 entries for the CruiseAmerica PENNational for the Homak Manufacturing Penn/Ohio Pro Stock Series.  Andrew Gordon set a new track record in qualifying with a lap of 20.158.  Heat races were won by Gordon, Rusty Moore, and Chris Schneider.  Gordon turned an identical lap to his qualifying lap in Heat 1, but Schneider later set a new track record in Heat 3 with a lap of 20.072 on lap 2, in the last race of the night.

The 29th Annual Pittsburgher concludes at Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway on Saturday, October 7 with the running of the 100 lap $20,000 to win 29th Annual Pittsburgher 100 for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series, plus the 30 lap $2,500 to win Bill Hendren Memorial for the Sweeney Chevrolet RUSH Dirt Late Model Marquee Series, and the CruiseAmerica PENNational for the Homak Manufacturing Penn/Ohio Pro Stock Series.  Warm-ups begin at 6:00 PM, with racing at 7:00 PM.  Follow us on Facebook at @PAMotorSpeedway or on Twitter at @PAMotorSpeedway for timely information updates.  The Twitter account is used extensively on race nights for live updates.  Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway is located west of the city of Pittsburgh, just south of the Noblestown exit of U.S. Route 22, or 170 Kelso Road in Imperial, PA, for GPS purposes.  The track phone is 412-279-RACE.  For complete information including ticket pricing information, please visit the track website at www.ppms.com .
