Mother nature finally cooperates for PPMS

For immediate release,

Imperial, PA

Mother Nature was finally on the side of drivers and fans alike with the Falconi’s Moon Township Automotive Outlaw Winged 410 Sprint Cars in town on a beautiful, early summer evening at Dirt’s Monster Half Mile. PPMS would see qualifying, seven heat races, a makeup feature, and six regular feature events. Carl Bowser (11), from Freeport, picked up his first PPMS 410 Sprint Car win of the season, paying $2,000 to win, while Mike Duritsky, from Masontown, also picked up his first win of the season in the Diehl Automotive RUSH Late Model Dirt Series. Danny Rich (67X), from Imperial, picked up his second win of the season in the PPMS Pro Stock division. Stephen Shelpman (17S), from Pleasant Hills, picked up his first Keystone Coach Works Hobby Stock win of the season and he not only won the makeup feature from Saturday, June 1, 2019, but he also won the main feature event, taking home two wins in one night. Andy Garlinger (R88), from Hopedale, Ohio, took home another Four Cylinder victory, making it four wins in a row, while Tony Magill (05), from Jefferson Hills, took home his second win of the season in the Young Guns division.

In the Falconi’s Moon Township Automotive Outlaw 410 Winged Sprint car 20-lap feature, Brandon Matus (13), from Wampum, would start on the pole. To his outside and starting in second was his dad, Brent Matus (33), also from Wampum. The second row consisted of Bowser (11) in third, who was also the fast qualifier with a time of 17.404, and Dan Kuriger (08) starting in fourth. Jack Sodeman Jr. (23JR), from North Jackson, Ohio, would start in fifth, and defending champion Sye Lynch (42), from Apollo, would complete the top three rows. When the green flag waved, it was a mad dash for first between Bowser (11), Brandon Matus (13), and Sodeman Jr (23JR). Bowser (11) would take the lead at the line with Brandon Matus (13) in second, and Sodeman Jr (23JR) in third. With Bowser (11) leading, Sodeman Jr (23JR) and Brandon Matus (13) would battle hard for second place for the first half of the event with Brandon Matus (13) eventually claiming the second spot behind Bowser (11) and Sodeman Jr (23JR) in third. By the middle of the race, Bowser (11) began to make his way through lapped traffic. With Bowser (11) continuing to lead on lap 13, Brandon Matus (13) would remain in second, Sodeman Jr. (23JR) still in third, Kuriger (08) in fourth, and Lynch (42) was in fifth. Bowser (11) was on a rail and with the race going from green flag to checkered flag, Bowser (11) practically lapped the fourth place car, en route to his first PPMS Outlaw 410 Winged Sprint Car win of the season, taking $2,000 to the bank. He was followed to the line by Brandon Matus (13) in second, Sodeman Jr. (23JR) in third, Lynch (42) in fourth, Kuriger (08) in fifth, Darrin Gallagher (91) in sixth, Brent Matus (33) in seventh, Eric Williams (4W) in eighth, Layton Wagner (38) in ninth, Bob McMillan (5M) in tenth, and David Jones (76) rounded out the 11-car field. Heat race winners were Bowser (11) and Gallagher (91).

In the Diehl Automotive RUSH Late Model Dirt Series 20-lap feature, Russ Matejka (17M), from Hopewell, would start on the pole in his first outing of the season. Mike Duritsky (90J), from Masontown, would start to his outside in second place. Christian Schneider (1ST), from Pittsburgh, would start in third, and Josh Stoica (22J), from New Cumberland, West Virginia would start in fourth. When the green flag dropped, Duritsky (90J) would take the early lead with Matejka (17M) in second and Tommy Schirnhofer (8) in third. By the middle of the event, Duritsky (90J) would start to pick his way through lapped-traffic with Schirnhofer (08) and John Mollick (60M), from Toronto, Ohio, hot on his heels. The night belonged to Duritsky (90J) though as he picked up his first PPMS win of the season. Following him to the line was Mollick (60M), in second, Schneider (1ST) in third, Schirnhofer (8) in fourth, Matejka (17M) in fifth, Logan Zarin (1Z) in sixth, Ben Policz (14B) in seventh, Justin Lamb (93X) in eighth, Stoica (22J) in ninth, and Ryan Frazee (11F) would round out the top 10. Heat Race winners were Mollick (60M) and Policz (14B).

In the PPMS Pro Stock 15-lap feature, Nick Kocuba (10), from Burgettstown, would start on the pole. To his outside and starting in second was Mike Harris (18), from Bridgeville. Robert Betz (81), from South Heights, would start in third, and Josh Langer (11), from Imperial, would start in fourth, while Rich (67X) would round out the five-car field. When the green flag waved, Kocuba (10) would keep an early lead over the field but Rich (67X) was on the move, taking second place on lap two. Two laps later, Rich (67X) was starting to gain some ground on Kocuba (10) and on lap six, Rich (67X) would take the lead. The middle of the race had Rich (67X) leading, Kocuba (10) in second, Harris (18) in third, Langer (11) in fourth, and Betz (81) in fifth. By lap 11, Rich (67X) had a whole straightaway lead over the field and would dominate the race, picking up his second PPMS Pro Stock win of the season. He was followed to the line by Kocuba (10) in second, Harris (18) in third, Langer (11) in fourth, and Betz (81) in fifth. Rich (67X) also won the heat race.

In the Keystone Coach Works Hobby Stock 12-lap makeup feature, John Hollister (11), from McDonald, would start on the pole. To his outside and starting in second was Tom Anton (313), from Jefferson Hills. The second row consisted of Ed Shelpman (17P), from Pleasant Hills, in third, and Frank Magill (05), from Jefferson Hills, starting in fourth. When the green flag dropped, a battle for the lead would ensue, and on lap two the caution would come out for F. Magill (05) who spun out on the front stretch. E. Shelpman (17P) would lead the field on the restart but his son Stephen would steal the lead when the green flag waved. Another caution would come on lap four and on the restart, Randy Deberardinis (121), from Monongahela, would be docked two spots for passing before the cone, and another restart would take place. With the green flag waving, S. Shelpman (17S) would keep the lead with his dad, E. Shelpman (17P) in tow. By the middle of the event, S. Shelpman (17S) had a full straightaway lead over the field and he wouldn’t look back, picking up his first PPMS win of the season. He was followed to the line by E. Shelpman (17P) in second, F. Magill (05) in third, Deberardinis (121) in fourth, Marcus Simmons (68X) in fifth, Karlee Kovacs (221K) in sixth, T Anton (313) in seventh, Andrew Sutton (16A) in eighth, Casey Grumling (77X) in ninth, and Jason Garchak (46) in tenth. Heat race winners back on 6.1.19 were Grumling (77X) and S. Shelpman (17S).

In the main Keystone Coach Works Hobby Stock 12-lap feature event, Michael Betsch (222) would start on the pole. Starting in second was E. Shelpman (17P), while F. Magill (05) started in third, and S. Shelpman (17S) started in fourth. When the green flag dropped, S. Shelpman (17S) stole the lead on the first lap. The caution came out on lap four when Tyler Fox (39F) spun out, forcing him to tag the field. S. Shelpman (17S) would lead the field to green on the restart with Grumling (77X) in second and E. Shelpman (17P) in third. Another caution came on lap nine when Matt Bernard (15B) hit the wall in turn three. Again, S. Shelpman (17S) would bring the field back to green on the restart with F. Magill (05) in third, E. Shelpman (17P) in fourth, and Simmons (68X) in fifth. Yet another caution would come on lap 10 and Fox (39) was black-flagged for reckless driving when he intentionally crashed Simmons (68X). Fox (39F) will also face a fine from track officials for the incident. S Shelpman (17S) would bring the field back to green once again and after an eventful race, S. Shelpman (17S) led the field to victory, picking up his second PPMS win of the season and second win of the night. He was followed to the line by F. Magill (05) in second, Simmons (68X) in third after having to pit to have his bumper removed after the crash and being forced to tag the field. DeBerardinis (121) in fourth, Kovacs (221K) in fifth, B. Anton (13) in sixth, E. Shelpman (17P) in seventh, T. Anton (313) in eighth, Fox (39F) in ninth, and Sutton (16A) completed the top 10. Heat race winners were Grumling (77X) and S. Shelpman (17S).

Starting in second was Tanya Charlier (21), from Midway, while Andy Garlinger (R88), from Hopedale, Ohio would start in third, and Craig Rudolph (5R), from Steubenville, Ohio would round out the four-car field. When the green flag dropped, Garlinger (R88) would take the lead in turns one and two with C. Rudolph (5R) following him into second place. Garlinger (R88) almost started to lap the field on lap six of eight, en route to his fourth PPMS win of the season and fourth win in a row. He was followed to the line by C. Rudolph (5R) in second, Romine (71) in third, and T. Charlier (21) in fourth. The Four Cylinders did not run a heat race.

In the Young Guns eight-lap feature, Kyle Janas (88), from Coraopolis, started on the pole. To his outside and starting in second was Tony Magill (05), from Jefferson Hills. The second row had Cameron Lambert (223), from Mars, in third, and Susie Rudolph (55), from Steubenville, Ohio in fourth, while Cameron Hollister (44), from McDonald, would round out the five-car field. When the green flag waved, Janas (88) would keep an early lead but it was short-lived as T. Magill (05) would take the lead on lap two, and S. Rudolph (55) would steal the second spot from Janas (88), knocking him back to third. T. Magill (05) led the remaining laps, en route to his second PPMS win of the season. He was followed to the line by S. Rudolph (55) in second, Janas (88) in third, C. Hollister (44) in fourth, and Lambert (223) in fifth. The Young Guns did not run a heat race.
