Paugh was ready to rumble at PPMS

It was a wild night of racing action for the 13th Annual Miley Motor Sports Rumble at Dirt’s Monster Half-Mile on Saturday night. PPMS would see qualifying, nine heat races, a six-lap dash, and seven feature events. Some race teams celebrating success on Saturday night, while other teams weren’t as lucky. 
Garret Paugh (03), from Elkins, WV, brought home the checkers in the 13th Annual Miley Motor Sports 35-lap Rumble. Chad Ruhlman (87R), from Bemus Point, New York, picked up another win in the RUSH Sprint Car Dirt Series 15-lap feature, while Tony Tatgenhorst (63T), from Columbiana, Ohio, snagged his first career win in the RUSH Sportsman Modified Dirt Series. Danny RIch (67X),from Imperial, picked up his fifth win on the season in the PPMS Pro Stock division, while Andy Garlinger (R88), from Hopedale, Ohio, was able to continue his dominating season, picking up another win in the Four Cylinder division, after a heated battle with Phillip Bubeck (2L), who almost ended Garlinger’s winning streak. Tony Magill (05), from Jefferson Hills, picked up another win in the Young Guns division, ending Susie Rudolph’s winning streak. 
The Diehl Automotive RUSH Late Model Dirt Series would see a stellar field of cars, competing for $2,053 to win in the 13th Annual Miley Motor Sports Rumble. John Mollick (60M), from Toronto, Ohio, set the fast time in qualifying with a time of 19.753. Division points leader, Ben Policz (14B), from Rices Landing, would qualify right behind Mollick (60M), with a time of 19.813, a 0.060-second difference. Garret Paugh (03), would qualify third with a time of 19.821, Nico Dabecco (F1), from Verona qualified fourth with a time of 19.922, and Logan Zarin (1Z), from Moon Township, rounded out the top five in qualifying with a time of 20.004. Qualifying would determine the heat race starting spots. The top two from each heat race would redraw for the six-lap dash, and that finishing order would determine the top six starting spots in the 35-lap main event. 
With Mollick (60M), already setting the fast time for the event, and winning his heat race, he would redraw the pole position for the six-lap dash, as luck appeared to be on his side for a change. Mollick (60M) has suffered some bad luck this season at PPMS. Ryan Frazee (11F), from Addison, would start to Mollick’s (60M) outside in second, while Zarin (1Z), would start in third, Paugh (03), would start in fourth, Mike Duritsky (90J) from Masontown, would start in fifth, and Policz (14B) would round out the six-car field. When the green flag dropped in the dash, Mollick (60M) would pull out to an early lead with Zarin (1Z) following him into second, Paugh (03) in third, and Policz (14B) in fourth. Mollick (60M) would have a half of a straightaway lead by lap four and would win the dash in dominating fashion. Zarin (1Z) would finish in second, Paugh (03) in third, Policz (14B) in fourth, Duritsky (90J) in fifth, and Frazee (11F) in sixth. With the lineup set for the 35-lap main event, it was time to rumble. 
Mollick (60M), Zarin (1Z), Paugh (03), Policz (14B), Duritsky (90J), and Frazee (11F) would lead the field around the track for the three-wide salute to the fans and to the Miley Motor Sports partners that PPMS lost way too soon. With the three-wide salute completed and the caution lights out, it was showtime. When the green flag dropped, Mollick (60M) would take the early lead, with Policz (14B) right behind him in second place. Lap four would see the event’s first caution, slowing the pace, for the 33X of Eric Hamilton Jr. who hit the wall under the flag stand and came to rest on the outside wall at the entrance to turn one. Mollick (60M) would lead the restart and when green replaced yellow, Mollick (60M) would keep the lead with Paugh (03) taking the second spot from Policz (14B), knocking him back to third. Mollick (60M) would start weaving his way through lapped traffic on lap 11 and another caution would slow the pace on lap 14 with a car spun out in turn two. With 21 laps remaining in the event, Mollick (60M) would lead the field on the restart with Paugh (03) in second, Policz (14B) in third, Zarin (1Z) in fourth, and Frazee (11F) in fifth. Once again, Mollick (60M) would keep the lead when the field returned to green-flag conditions. Lap 21 had Mollick (60M) still leading, Paugh (03) still in second, Zarin (1Z) still in third, and Duritsky (90J) now in fourth. The field would see another caution on lap 22 and with Mollick (60M) leading the restart, Duritsky (90J) would have car trouble before the green flag came out, forcing him to enter the pits. When the green flag waved, Mollick (60M) would again keep the lead, but the field would hardly get one lap completed before the caution was out again for Zarin (1Z) who hit the wall in turn three. Mollick (60M) would choose the inside on the restart with Paugh (03) in second, and Policz (14B) in third. When the green flag dropped, Paugh (03) would take over the lead, knocking Mollick (60M) back to second. Another caution would come on lap 25 for Colby Beighy (36B) and the 17G of Zach Gunn who got tangled up in turn one. Paugh (03) would take the outside on the restart and keep the lead but the green-flag conditions were short-lived as another yellow would come on lap 27 for Z. Gunn (17G) and Paul Jablonski (3XJ) who got together in turn four. The 17G of Z. Gunn would retire to the pits for the evening, as it was his third caution of the event. Paugh (03) would lead the field back to green-flag conditions with eight laps remaining in the event. As the field came through turns one and two, Heath Close (77H), from Shaler, would spin out and get hit by Jablonski (3JX), causing Close (77H) to flip and land on his roof. Close (77H) would be okay and walk to the ambulance on his own power. With the laps winding down, Paugh (03) would lead the field on the restart and when green replace yellow, a two-way battle for the lead would ensue between Paugh (03) and Mollick (60M), as they raced side by side with Mollick (60M) taking the lead, and Paugh (03) taking it right back. Yet another caution would come on lap 30 for the 8S of Tommy Schirnhofer who hit the wall on the front stretch. Paugh (03) would lead the restart with five laps remaining in the event and would keep the lead when the field got up to speed. The event’s last caution would come on lap 34 when the 3JX of Jablonski would spin out in turn two. Jablonski (3JX) was sent to the pits, as that was his third caution of the event. A two-lap shootout would ensue with Paugh (03) choosing the outside on the restart. Paugh (03) would lead the remaining two laps of the event, en route to his second PPMS win of the season and first Miley Motor Sports Rumble victory. He was followed to the line by Mollick (60M) in second, Policz (14B) in third, Reft (9R) in fourth, Nico Dabecco (F1) in fifth, Christian Schneider (1ST) in sixth, Braeden Dillinger (14D) in seventh, Frazee (11F) in eighth, Zach Kane (10) in ninth, and Schirnhofer (8S) rounding out the top 10. The heat race winners were Paugh (03), Mollick (60M) and Policz (14B). Other notables: Schneider (1ST) started fifteenth and finished sixth, and Dabecco started thirteenth and finished fifth. 
In the RUSH Sprint Car 15-lap feature, Jeremy Weaver (41), from Stoneboro, would start on the pole. To his outside and starting in second was Zach Morrow (27M), from Gibsonia. Kevin Ruhlman (23) from Bemus Point, New York, would start in third, and Chad Ruhlman (87R), also from Bemus Point, New York, would complete the top two rows. When the green flag dropped, Weaver (41) would keep the early lead with Morrow (27M) hot on his heels. Lap six had Weaver (41) still leading the field with Morrow (27M) in second and C. Ruhlman (87R) in third. With seven laps to go, Morrow (27M) began to close the gap on the leader, and with six laps to go, he would steal the lead from Weaver (41), with C. Ruhlman (87R) following Morrow (27M) into second place. With three laps to go in the event, C. Ruhlman (87R) would steal the lead from Morrow (27M) en route to another PPMS victory. Following him to the line was Morrow (27M) in second, Weaver (41) in third, K.Ruhlman (23) in fourth, Brian Ruhlman (49) in fifth, Greg Beach (33) in sixth, Steve Pedley (21) in seventh, Brian Hartzell (69) in eighth, and Matt Sherlock iii (55) rounding out the nine-car field. The heat race winner was Morrow (27M). 
In the RUSH Sportsman Modified 15-lap feature, Chelsie Kriegisch (10), from Ellwood City would start on the pole. Starting to her outside and in second place was defending track champion Chas Wolbert (C3), from Howland, Ohio. Rob Kristyak (00) would start in third, and Kole Holden (2), from Tiona, would start in fourth. When the green flag waved, Kriegisch (10) would keep the early lead and lead the first seven laps of the event with Kristyak (00) in second and Tony Tatgenhorst (63T) in third. On lap eight, Tatgenhorst would go to the low side coming off of turn four, taking over the lead while passing Kristyak (00) and Kriegisch at the same time. Tatgenhorst (63T) was on a rail and would lead the remaining laps of the event, en route to his first career RUSH Sportsman Modified victory. He was followed to the line by Kriegisch (10) in second. Kristyak (00) in third, Wolbert (C3) in fourth, Holden (2) in fifth, Cameron Nastasi (615) in sixth, Jacob Jordan (28J) in seventh, Greg Porter (25) in eighth, and Nathan McDowell (11G) in ninth. The heat race winner was Kristyak (00). 
In the PPMS Pro Stock 12-lap feature, Chase Lambert (22JR), from Mars, would start on the pole. To his outside and starting in second was Bill Slade (A22), from Bethel Park, while Robert Betz (81), from South Heights, would start in third, Vince Laboon (18), from Baldwin, would start in fourth, as he was driving Mike Harris’s car, and Danny Rich (67X) would round out the five-car field. When the field came under green flag conditions, Lambert (22JR) would keep the early lead with Rich (67X) following him into second place. Lambert (22JR) would lead the first three laps of the event but Rich (67X) would take over the lead on lap four. Lambert (22JR) was able to stay right there with Rich (67X) at first but eventually, Rich (67X) would begin to pull away from the field. By lap eight, Rich (67X) had a half of a straightaway lead over the field and he wouldn't look back, en route to his fifth PPMS victory of the season. He was followed to the line by Lambert (22JR) in second, Laboon (18) in third, Slade (A22) in fourth, and Betz (81) in fifth. The heat race winner was Rich (67X). 
In the Keystone Coach Works Hobby Stock 12-lap feature, Karlee Kovacs (221K), from Carnegie, would be the pole-sitter. Marcus Simmons (68X) from Beaver Falls, would start in second, A.J. Poljak (17p), from Baldwin, would start in third driving Ed Shelpman’s car, and Stephen Shelpman (17S) would complete the top two rows. When the green flag dropped, S. Shelpman (17S) would take over the lead on lap one. Lap two had S. Shelpman (17S) leading, Poljak (17P) in second, last week’s winner, Frank Magill (05) in third, and Simmons (68X) in fourth. S. Shelpman (17S) would enter lapped-traffic on lap six and he would give up the lead to Poljak (17P) on the following lap. The pair would do battle for the next few laps with S. Shelpman (17S) taking the lead away from Poljak (17P) with three laps to go. The event’s lone caution would come with two laps to go. S. Shelpman would lead the restart and when the green flag waved for the final time, he took off like a rocket. S. Shelpman would lead the remaining two laps of the event, picking up his fifth Hobby Stock win of the season. He was followed to the line by Poljak (17P) in second, Magill (05) in third, Simmons (68X) in fourth, Kovacs (221K) in fifth, Matt Bernard (15B) in sixth, Cody Koteles (1K) in seventh, Andrew Sutton (16A) in eighth, Tom Anton (13) in ninth, and Kaleb Behanna (79) completing the top 10. The heat race winners were S. Shelpman (17S) and Poljak (17P). 
Andy Garlinger (R88) has dominated the Four Cylinder division this season at PPMS. Coming into Saturday night’s event, he had won every feature event this season so far. With Bill Tennant (2), from Weirton, West Virginia in the house, Garlinger (R88) would have his work cut out for him. In the eight-lap feature, Bob Quaigg (16) would start on the pole. To his outside and starting in second was Phillip Bubeck (2L). Tennant (2) would start in third, and Garlinger (R88) would complete the four-car field. When the green flag waved, Bubeck (2L) would keep the early lead with Garlinger (R88) in tow. The caution came out on lap two for Debris on the track and Tennant (2) was forced to enter the pits with an unknown car issue. Bubeck would lead the restart and would lead the race through lap five. Garlinger (R88) would steal the lead from Bubeck (2L) on lap six, as they came off of turn four. Bubeck would challenge Garlinger (R88) for the lead for the remaining two laps of the event, but Garlinger (R88) was able to keep his winning streak alive. He was followed by Bubeck (2L) in second, Quaigg (16) in third, and Tennant (2) in fourth. The four cylinders did not run a heat race. 
In the Young Guns eight-lap feature, Noah Bubeck (1) would start on the pole. Starting to his outside and in second place was Cameron Hollister (44), from McDonald, while Tony Magill (05), from Jefferson Hills, would start in third, Kyle Janas (88), from Coraopolis, would start in fourth, and Susie Rudolph (55), from Steubenville, Ohio would round out the five-car field. When the green flag dropped, track officials called a “no-start” and a full restart would ensue. The field would lineup for a second attempt. With a good start, green flag conditions would prevail. As the field entered turns one and two, contact would take place between Rudolph (55) and Magill (05), which damaged Rudolph’s (55) car. With it being a no contact division, and Rudolph (55) being ruled at fault by track officials, she was disqualified from the event, which ended her winning streak. N. Bubeck would lead the ensuing restart with T. Magill (05) following him into second, Janas (88) in third, and Hollister (44) in fourth. The field would remain the same through lap four. T. Magill (05) would take over the lead with two laps remaining in the event and he would cruise to his second PPMS victory of the season. He was followed to the line by Janas (88) in second, Hollister (44) in third, N Bubeck (2) in fourth, and Rudolph (55) in fifth. The Young Guns did not run a heat race. 
Racing resumes at Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway on Saturday, September 14, when the fastest cars on dirt invade the Monster Half-Mile. The Falconi’s Moon Township Automotive 410 Outlaw Winged Sprint Cars make their final appearance of 2019 on Saturday. PPMS will also be featuring the RUSH Sportsman Modified Dirt Series, the RUSH Late Model Dirt Series, the PPMS Pro Stocks, the Keystone Coach Works Hobby Stocks, the Four Cylinders, and the Young Guns.
