PPMS Finally Racing With Fans

Join us at PPMS on Saturday, June 20, 2020, for opening night at Dirt’s Monster Half-Mile after a long offseason. The Monster will feature seven divisions on the card this week. PPMS will feature the RUSH Sprint Car Series, the RUSH Sportsman Modified Series, the RUSH Late Model Dirt Series, the PPMS Pro Stocks, the Keystone Coach Works Hobby Stocks, the Open 4 Cylinders, and the Young Guns. PPMS will be racing with fans this week. As per our COVID 19 safety plan, masks are required at the entrances, ticket booths, concession stands, and restrooms! Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway has plenty of capacity to meet % capacity guidelines. No one will be turned away! Please practice social distancing, if you have your own personal sanitizer, bring it, which is the safest thing to do. Please bring masks for high potential contact areas as well! Gates open at 5 p.m., hot laps begin at 6 p.m., and the racing action will commence at 7 p.m. Adults $15, Seniors $14, Ages 13-16 $10, Ages 6-12 $5, Children Under 6 are always FREE at Racing Events! Pits are $35, Pits for trophy Division Drivers are $15 at all events. Also, it's Twin State and PCTC night, free grandstand admission with a valid club ID and photo ID. NO CLUB DISCOUNT FOR PITS!

 

This past weekend, practice at PPMS was a success. A lot of teams were able to test and tune with the season starting just around the corner. PPMS saw four classes of cars for the test and tune session. The RUSH Late Model Dirt Series had around 12 cars for the session. Keith Barbara (64K), from South Park, makes his return to dirt track racing this season in the Drew Koteles owned Lazer Chassis. Barbara made quite the name for himself at PPMS racing his Super Late Model and is a former winner of the Pittsburgher 100. No doubt, Barbara will shake up the RUSH Late Model Dirt Series at PPMS this season. Christian Schneider (1ST), from Warren, OH, also looked great on Saturday in his Ken Maniecki owned ride. Schneider finished second in points last season with 1,332 points. 

 

The Keystone Coach Works Hobby Stock division saw 17 total cars for practice. The Hobby Stock division has been growing every season at PPMS and should have over 20 cars in 2020. Three-time defending champion, Stephen Shelpman (17S), from Pleasant Hills, is looking to make it four in a row this season. Karlee Kovacs (221K), from Carnegie, is looking to have a breakout season and go after the Keystone Coach Works Hobby Stock championship in 2020. Both drivers looked great on Saturday during practice. 

 

In the PPMS Pro Stock division, Eric Piotrowski made his return to PPMS in his number 7 Pro Stock. Nick Kocuba (10), from Bulger, made an appearance before heading out to Latrobe Speedway for the evening. Dave McManus (114), from Elizabeth, was trying to shake the bugs out of his Ben Laboon owned ride, while Cam Krassinger (47) had his Pro Stock out for the first time in over a year. Justin Lamb briefly drove the Krassinger Pro Stock towards the end of last season. Joe Anthony (67X) had his Pro Stock out for some laps on Saturday. While Joe owns the 67X, Danny Rich has driven it for the past few seasons. Joe and Danny plan on splitting seat time this season, as Joe plans on getting back behind the wheel.

 

The Open 4 Cylinder division had the dominator, Andy Garlinger (R88), from Hopedale, Ohio, in the house trying to shake the bugs out of his brand new car. Garlinger blew a fuse during his first few practice laps and continued to have problems throughout the day. Former Young Guns drivers Susie Rudolph (5), from Steubenville, Oh, and Kyle Janas (88), from Coraopolis, have both moved up to the Open 4 Division for the 2020 season. Rudolph has a new car and is looking to repeat her success as Young Guns track champion in her new division but with a new car. Janas was looking great in his new division and might give Garlinger a run for his money this season. 

 

Greg Beach (33X), from Chicora, had his RUSH Sprint Car out for practice and he was flying around the track just like he used to do in his Pro Stock when he won the PPMS Pro Stock Championship. Beach will be a force to be reckoned with this season in the RUSH Sprint Car Division.
