Pittsburgh Pennsylvania Motor Speedway

Barbara and Fosnaught snag first wins of the season at ppms

For immediate release

Imperial, PA

After being forced to shut down for a week due to the COVID 19 restrictions, Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway was back in action on Saturday night. After heavy rain Friday evening, the track crew did an amazing job getting the track ready for racing action. PPMS would see seven heat races and six feature events. Chas Wolbert (C3), from Howland, Ohio, would make it two wins in a row after a late-race pass for the lead in the RUSH Sportsman Modified 15-lap main event. Keith Barbara (64K), from South Park, would pick up his first win of the season in the RUSH Late Model Dirt Series 20-lap feature, while Jason Fosnaught (73), from Tarentum, would also grab win number one on the season in the PPMS Pro Stock division. Stephen Shelpman (17S), from Pleasant Hills, continued to dominate the Keystone Coach Works Hobby Stock division with another victory. The Bubeck brothers, Philip and Noah, would both snag win number two in the Four Cylinder and Young Guns divisions respectively.

The RUSH Sportsman Modified 15-lap feature would start nine cars with Preston Cope (24P), from Champion, Ohio, starting on the pole. To his outside and starting in second was David Kalb Jr. (11J), from Aurora, Ohio. The second row consisted of Ayden Cipriano (5C), from Northwest, PA, in third place, and Wolbert (C3) in fourth. When the green flag dropped, Cope (24P) would pull away with the early lead but Wolbert (C3) wasn’t far behind, as he took over second place by lap two. Cope (24P) would continue to lead through lap six with Wolbert (C3) still in second, Kole Holden (2), from Tiona, in third, Kalb Jr. (11) in fourth, and Tony Tatgenhorst (63T), from Columbiana, Ohio, in fifth. Wolbert (C3) would continue to run down Cope (24P), as Cope (24P) was still in the lead with four laps to go. Wolbert (C3) would make the late-race pass for the lead with three laps to go, en route to his second PPMS victory and second in a row. Following him to the line was Cope (24P) in second, Holden (2) in third, Tatgenhorst (63T) in fourth, Cipriano (5C) in fifth, Jordan Ehrenberg (JD57) in sixth, Brian Sadler (5) in seventh, Jacob Jordan (28J) in eighth, and Kalb Jr. (11) in ninth. The heat race winner was Cope (24P).

17 cars would start the 20-lap feature for the RUSH Late Model Dirt Series and Bobby Springer (42S), from Clinton, would start on the pole. Starting in second place was Cole Petrelle (184), from Weirton, West Virginia. Colby Beighey (36B), from Taylor, Michigan, would start in third and Bill Kessler (09), from Freedom, would complete the second row and starting in fourth place. When the green flag waved,  Petrelle (184) would grab the early lead. Petrelle (184) would lead through lap two when seventh-starting Barbara (64K) would take over the lead on the next lap. Lap eight had Barbara (64K) still leading with Ben Policz (14B), from Rices Landing, in second, John Mollick (60M), from Toronto, Ohio, in third, and Daryl Charlier (12), from Midway, in fourth. A caution would slow the pace on lap 10 and Barbara (64K) would choose the inside on the restart. When the field would return to green-flag conditions, Barbara (64K) would have an awesome restart and retain the lead with Policz (14B) still in second, D. Charlier (12) in third, and Mollick (60M) in fourth. Another caution would come on lap 17 and again, Barbara (64K) would choose the inside on the restart with Policz (14B) in second, Mollick (60M) in third, D. Charlier (12) in fourth, and Petrelle (184) in fifth. When the green flag dropped for the final time in the event, Barbara (64K) would keep the lead and lead the remaining three laps, en route to his first PPMS win of the season. Following him to the line was Policz (14B) in second, Mollick (60M) in third, D. Charlier (12) in fourth, Nico Dabecco (42D) in fifth, Zach Gunn (17G) in sixth, Christian Schneider (1ST) in seventh, Petrelle (184) in eighth, Beighey (36B) in ninth, and Tony White (27T) would round out the top 10. The heat race winners were Logan Zarin (1Z) and Policz (14B).

In the PPMS Pro Stock 15-lap feature, Jason Fosnaught (73) would start on the pole. Starting to his outside and in second place was Todd Weldon (45), from Monongahela. Corey McPherson (C33), from Pittsburgh, would start in third, while Ryan Moyer (13X), from Portersville, would complete the second row in fourth. The green flag would drop and Fosnaught (73) would take the early lead. Lap four had Fosnaught (73) still leading, Moyer (13X) now in second, Weldon (45) in third, and McPherson (C33) in fourth. The field would remain the same with five laps to go. The event would go green to checkered in record fashion with Fosnaught (73) taking the 2.867-second win over second-place Moyer (13X). Weldon (45) finished third, McPherson (C33) finished fourth, Nick Kocuba (10) finished fifth, Dave McManus (114) finished sixth, Brent McDonald (25M) finished seventh, Mike Harris (18) finished eighth, AJ Poljak (36) finished ninth, and Bill Slade (A22) would complete the 10-car field. Jeff Broniszewski (08) was a DNS after having trouble in the heat race. The heat race winner was Fosnaught (73).

The Keystone Coach Works Hobby Stock feature would have 17 cars starting the event. John Cain (06) would be the pole-sitter. Karlee Kovacs (221K), from Carnegie, would start in second, while Robert Betz (22) would start in third, and S. Shelpman (17S) would start in fourth. When the green flag waved, it didn’t take S. Shelpman (17S) long to capture the lead with eighth-starting Cody Koteles (1K) following him to second. The first caution would come on lap four when Frank Magill (05) hit the wall and spun out under the flag stand. S. Shelpman (17S) would choose the outside on the restart and when the field returned to green-flag conditions, S. Shelpman (17S) would keep the lead with C. Koteles (1K) in second, and Kovacs (221K) in third. Another caution would come on lap nine when C. Koteles (1K) hit the wall in turn four which flattened his right-rear tire. C. Koteles (1K) would enter the pits to have the tire changed and he made it back out to tag the field for the restart, while S. Shelpman (17S) would again choose the outside and bring the field back under green. S. Shelpman (17S) would lead the remaining laps of the event, picking up his second win of the season and second win in a row. C. Koteles (1K) had an impressive second-place finish after having to tag the field with only three laps to go. Kovacs (221K) finished in third, Kayla McManus (00K) finished in fourth, Ed Shelpman (17P) finished in fifth, Tony Magill (05) finished in sixth, Jon Koteles (2K) finished in seventh, Mike Tropeck (47T) finished in eighth, Matt Bernard (15B) finished in ninth, and Tom Anton (64) finished in tenth. The heat race winners were Kovacs (221K) and S. Shelpman (17S).

The Four-Cylinder feature would have John Gill (19G), from Burgettstown, starting on the pole. Tanya Charlier (21), from Midway, would lineup to the outside and in second place. Car number 13 would start in third, and Philip Bubeck (2L) would start in fourth. When the green flag dropped, P. Bubeck (2L) would charge to the front and take over the lead. By lap five, P. Bubeck (2L) had a whole straightaway lead over the field. P. Bubeck (2L) would lead all laps of the event, en route to another PPMS victory. Following him to the line was Gill (19G) in second, #13 in third, T. Charlier (21) in fourth, Eric Reynolds (53) in fifth, #516 in sixth, and John Hollister (69) in seventh. Kyle Janas (88) was a DNS. The heat race winner was P. Bubeck (2L).

The Young Guns six-lap feature would see three cars. Starting on the pole was Cameron Hollister (44), from Mcdonald. Cameron Lambert (22), from Mars, would start in second, and N. Bubeck (2) would complete the field. When the green flag dropped, the field had a slow start but by the end of lap one, N. Bubeck (2) had taken over the lead. By lap three, N. Bubeck (2L) would have a huge lead and would dominate the event, picking up his second PPMS victory of the season. C. Hollister (44) finished in second, and Lambert (22) finished in third. The Young Guns did not run a heat race.
