Paugh wins 8th annual herb scott memorial

For immediate release

Imperial, PA

The heat was on last night at Dirt’s Monster Half-Mile with the 8th Annual Herb Scott Memorial for the RUSH Late Model Touring Series. 41 RUSH Late Models were in the house and were set to do battle. The Herb Scott Memorial is the warm-up race for the Jook George Steel City Classic only a few weeks away. Not only did mother nature bring the heat, but the RUSH Late Model drivers did as well. With a stellar field of cars, only 26 would make the a-main and the rest would go to the non-qualifiers race. PPMS would see qualifying, a 6-lap dash, seven heat races, two b-mains, five-a-main feature events, and a non-qualifiers feature.

Garret Paugh (03), from Elkins, West Virginia, would win the 8th Annual Herb Scott Memorial for the RUSH Late Model Touring Series, and Tony White (27T), from Hopewell, would win the RUSH Late Model Dirt Series Non-Qualifiers feature event. Chas Wolbert (C3), from Howland, Ohio, would continue his domination in the RUSH Sportsman Modified division, as he picked up his third win in a row on Saturday night. Nick Kocuba (10), from Bulger, brought home the win in the PPMS Pro Stock division, while Noah Bubeck (2), from Washington, would snag another win in the Young Guns division.

John Mollick (60M), from Toronto, OH, would not only set the fast-time in his qualifying group, but he would also set the fast-time overall, with a time of 19.914. Mollick (60M) was the only driver to record a 19-second lap time as well. Paugh (03) would set the fast-time in his qualifying group, but the overall second fastest qualifier was Ben Policz (14B), from Rices Landing, with a time of 20.079, a 0.165-second difference behind Mollick (60M). 19 different drivers were less than a second off of the fast-time, which made for an exciting night of racing.

After the heat races and in the 6-lap Dash, Mollick (60M) would start on the pole. Josh Ferry (33), from Cochranton, would start to his outside and in second place. The second row consisted of David Pangrazio (136), from Elba, New York, in third, and Paugh (03) in fourth. Policz (14B) and Daryl Charlier (12), from Midway, would make up the third row and start fifth and sixth respectively, while Michael Duritsky (90J), from Masontown, would round out the seven-car field, as Keith Barbara (64K) from South Park, was a DNS in the Dash. When the green flag dropped, Mollick (60M) would take off with the lead and he would lead all six laps, ensuring him the pole-position in the 30-lap A-main. Following him to the line in the Dash was Pangrazio (136) in second, Paugh (03) in third, Charlier (12) in fourth, Duritsky (90J) in fifth, Policz (14B) in sixth, and Ferry (33) in seventh. Those would be your top seven starting spots in the 8th Annual Herb Scott Memorial.

After the four heat races and the six-lap Dash, it was time for some b-main action, with the top four from each b-main earning a starting spot in the a-main event, while the rest would go to the non-qualifiers race. In b-main number one, Logan Zarin (1Z), from Moon, would start on the pole and take the win, while Steve Dixon (65D), from Smethport, would earn the other transfer spot. In the second b-main, Tim Shaffer (45), from Aliquippa, would start on the pole and would also take home the win, while Zach Kane (10), from Washington, would grab the other transfer spot.

With the field set for the 8th Annual Herb Scott Memorial, it was showtime. With Mollick (60M) as the pole-sitter, Pangrazio (136) would start in second, Paugh (03) in third, Charlier (12) in fourth, Duritsky (90J) in fifth, Policz (14B) in sixth, Ferry (33) in seventh, Jeremy Wonderling (3J), from Wellsville, New York in eighth, Joe Martin (10S), from Punxsutawney, in ninth, and Ryan Frazze (11F), from Addison, would complete the top 10 starting spots for the 8th Annual 30-lap Herb Scott Memorial. When the green flag dropped, Mollick (60M) would pull away with the early lead but the pace would slow as fast as the race started as the caution was thrown for the 33 of Berry who spun out in turn four. Mollick (60M) would take the outside on the restart and retain the lead when the field returned to green flag conditions. Lap three would see another caution for the 36B of Colby Beighey who sustained a left-rear flat tire, as well as rear end damage, after tagging the wall. Again, Mollick (60M) would lead the field on the restart with Charlier (12) now in second, Duritsky (90J) now in third, Pangrazio (136) now in fourth, and Policz (14B) now in fifth. Mollick (60M) would continue to lead through lap six and on lap seven, another caution would slow the pace for Colton Flinner (4T8) who had trouble between turns three and four. Another restart would ensue with Mollick (60M) leading the charge. Lap nine had Mollick (60M) still leading, Paugh (03) now in second, Charlier (12) back to third, Duritsky (90J) now in fourth, Joe Martin (10S) now in fifth, and Policz (14B) now out of the top five. Another caution would come on the same lap for the 11F of Ryan Frazee. Once the field returned to green-flag conditions, Mollick (60M) continued to lead the field with Paugh (03) right behind him. Two more cautions would come before the halfway point and it was the same song and dance with Mollick (60M) and Paugh (03) running first and second. Paugh (03) would take the lead from Mollick (60M) on lap 15 after the restart and Paugh (03) would lead through lap 18 when the field would see yet another caution for Charlier (12) who stopped high along the wall between turns three and four. Paugh (03) would take the outside on the restart with Mollick (60M) to his inside and in second place, and Martin (10S) in third, Jeremy Wonderling (3J) in fourth, and Duritsky (90J) in fifth. With 10 laps to go, the caution-fest would continue when a car had trouble in turn four. Again, Paugh (03) wanted the outside on the restart with Mollick (60M) to his inside, Wonderling (3J) now in third, Martin (10S) in fourth, and Duritsky (90J) in fifth. After a caution-filled event, the remaining 10 laps would happen under green and on lap 26 Paugh (03) began to enter lapped-traffic and would continue to pad his lead over the field. Paugh (03) would lead the remaining four laps of the event, en route to his first RUSH Late Model Touring Series win and first PPMS win of the season. He was followed to the line by Mollick (60M) in second, Martin (10S) in third, Wonderling (3J) in fourth, Duritsky (90J) in fifth, Tim Shaffer (45) in sixth, Steve Dixon (65D) in seventh, Josh Ferry (33) in eighth, John Waters (11L) in ninth, and Policz (14B) rounds out the top 10. The heat race winners were Mollick (60M), Policz (14B), Paugh (03), and Ferry (33). Notables: Waters (11L) started 25th and finished 9th, Shaffer (45), and Dixon (65) started 21 and 22 and finished sixth and seventh respectively.

In the RUSH Late Model Dirt Touring Series Non-Qualifiers eight-lap feature, Tony White (27T), from Hopewell, started on the pole. Brian Goebel (12GX), from Beaver Falls, would start to his outside in second place. The second row consisted of Jamie Wrightsman (21J), from Cortland, Ohio, who started third and Kassidy Kamicker (72B), from Aliquippa, started in fourth, and made her RUSH Late Model debut. When the green flag waved, White (27T) would keep the early lead. At the halfway point, White (27T) was still leading the field with Wrightsman (21J) in second, D.J. Nakutis (31) in third, B. Goebel (12GX) in fourth, and Josh Stoica (22J) in fifth. White (27T) was on a rail and led all eight laps of the event picking up his first PPMS victory of the season. He was followed to the line by Wrightsman (21J) in second, D. Nakutis (31) in third, B. Goebel (12GX) in fourth, Stoica (22J) in fifth, Dave Gobel (20G) in sixth, Kamicker (72B) in seventh, John Boring (58B) in eighth, and Denny Nakutis (3) rounds out the field in ninth.

The RUSH Sportsman Modifieds made their third appearance of the season at PPMS on Saturday night. Chas Wolbert (3C) would start on the pole. To his outside and starting in second was Brandon Ritchey (17), from Seneca. Ayden Cipriano (5C), from Hermitage, started in third, while Tony Tatgenhorst (63T), from Columbiana, Ohio started in fourth, Chelsie Kriegisch (10), from Ellwood City, started in fifth, Kole Holden (2), from Tiona, started in sixth, Kyle Martell (8), from Rootstown, Ohio, started in seventh, and Jessica Kriegisch (63), from Ellwood City, would round out the eight-car field. When the green flag dropped, track officials called a no-start and docked Wolbert (C3) two spots for starting early. The field would line up again and give it another try. With a good start and despite being docked two spots, Wolbert (C3) would have the lead at the line on lap one. Lap five had Wolbert (C3) still leading, Martel (8) in second, Tatgenhorst (63T) in third, and Ritchey (17) in fourth. Wolbert (C3) would have a full straightaway lead by lap eight and he would catch up to the tail of the eight-car field on the last lap. Wolbert (C3) led all laps of the event, picking up his third win in a row at PPMS. Following him to the line was Tatgenhorst (63T) in second, Martell (8) in third, Ritchey (17) in fourth, C. Kriegisch (10) in fifth, Holden (2) in sixth, Cipriano (5C) in seventh, and J.Kriegisch (63) in eighth. The heat race winner was Wolbert (C3).

In the PPMS Pro Stock 15-lap feature, Jim Nicely (72X) started on the pole with Nick Kocuba (10) to his outside in second place. Dave McManus (114), from Elizabeth, started in third, and Ryan Moyer (13X), from Portersville, started in fourth. When the green flag dropped, Kocuba (10) would pull away with the early lead, and McManus (114) would follow him into second place. The event’s first caution would come on lap two, and Kocuba (10) would choose the high-side on the restart and lead the field back to green-flag conditions. Another caution would come on lap four, and again, Kocuba (10) would take the outside on the restart and he would continue to lead the field until another caution would slow the pace on lap seven. Kocuba (10) would follow suit and take the outside on the restart with McManus (114) in second, A.J. Poljak (36) in third, Joe Anthony (69X) in fourth, and Moyer (13X) in fifth. Anthony (69X) would take over the second spot on lap eight and start to reel in Kocuba (10). Lap 11 had yet another caution for the 22JR of Chase Lambert. That was his third caution of the event and he was sent to the pits. Kocuba (10), Anthony (69X), and McManus (114) would run one, two, and three on the restart with four laps to go. When the green flag waved for the final time in the event, Kocuba would keep the lead and lead the remaining laps of the event, picking up his first PPMS Pro Stock win of the season. He was followed to the line by Anthony (69X) in second, Nicely (72X) in third, McManus (114) in fourth, Moyer (13X) in fifth, Eric Piotrowski (7) in sixth, A.J. Poljak (36) in seventh, C. Lambert (22JR) in eighth, and Jamie Maxwell (6) would round out the nine-car field. The heat race winner was Moyer (13X).

In the Young Guns feature, Cameron Hollister (44), from McDonald, would start on the pole with Cameron Lambert (223), from Mars to his outside in second place, and Noah Bubeck (2), from Washington, would round out the three-car field. On lap one, Hollister (44) had trouble and had to enter the pits, making it a two-car showdown. On the ensuing restart, Bubeck (2) would take the lead by turn one and would lead all six laps of the event, picking up his third Young Guns victory in a row. He was followed by Cameron Lambert (223) in second and Hollister (44) in third. The Young Guns did not run a heat race.
