Dellinger wins the 9th annual ed laboon memorial
For immediate release
Imperial, PA
Mother Nature would cooperate for the 9th Annual Ed Laboon Memorial at Dirt’s Monster Half-Mile on Saturday night. The track was in amazing shape for 41 Penn Ohio Pro Stocks battling to make the 26-car main event. PPMS would see qualifying, nine heat races, an eight-lap Dash, two B-mains, and seven A-main feature events. Alan Dellinger (7S), from Hermitage, would win the Penn Ohio Pro Stock 30-lap 9th Annual Ed Laboon Memorial, while Jacob Black (5B), from Spring Creek, would win the Penn Ohio Pro Stock Non-Qualifiers race. Logan Zarin (1Z), from Moon Township, would pick up his first RUSH Late Model win at PPMS, and Cody Koteles (1K), from Stockdale, would also pick up his first PPMS win in the Keystone Coach Works Hobby Stock division. Philip Bubeck (2L), from Washington, would win both of the Four Cylinder features, while Noah Bubeck (2), from Washington, continued to dominate the Young Guns division with another feature win.
The Penn Ohio Pro Stocks were broken into two groups for qualifying and Bobby Whitling (7W), from Seneca, would not only set the fast time for group one, but he would set the overall fast time at 19.513. Chris McGuire (63), from Erie, would set the fast-time for group two with a time of 19.759. The field was then broken into four heat races with the top two making it into the redraw for the eight-lap Dash, which would determine the top eight starting spots in the 30-lap A-main. Rusty Martz (16M) and Whitling (7W) finished one and two in heat one, Noah Brunell (31) and Jackson Humanic (17) in heat two, Jason Fosnaught (73) and McGuire (63M) in heat three, and Dellinger (7S) and Chris Schneider (55) in heat four. Those eight drivers would redraw for the Dash. Dellinger (7S) would win the Dash, ensuring him the pole position in the 30-lap A-main. Before the A-main, there were two B-mains with the top four advancing to the big show. Andrew Gordon (25G) would win the first B-main with Randy Wyant (11T) in second, AJ Poljak (36) in third, and Todd Weldon (45) grabbing the last transfer spot in fourth. The second B-main saw Joshua Seippel (84S) taking the win with Brent McDonald (25M) in second, Nick Kocuba (10) in third, and Curt Bish Jr (00) grabbing the last transfer spot in fourth. All of the other drivers would go to the Non-Qualifiers feature.
In the 30-lap A-main, Dellinger (7S) would start on the pole. To his outside and starting in second was Hunamic (17), while McGuire (63M) would start in third, Fosnaught (73) would start in fourth, Brunell (31) would start in fifth, and Schneider (55) would complete the top three starting rows. When the green flag dropped, Dellinger (7S) would retain the early lead with Schneider (55) following him into second place. Lap six had Dellinger (7S) still leading, Schneider (55) still in second, Fosnaught (73) in third, Humanic (17) in fourth, and McGuire (63M) in fifth. The top five would remain the same through lap 11 when the event’s first caution would slow the pace. Dellinger (7S) would keep the lead on the restart but another caution would come just two laps later on lap 13 for a car that had trouble in turn two. Again, Dellinger (7S) would lead the restart and he would keep the lead when the field returned to green-flag conditions. Another caution would come on lap 17 for debris in turn four. Dellinger (7S) would lead the restart with Schneider (55) still in second, Fosnaught (73) still in third, McGuire (63M) moved up to fourth, Humanic (17) fell to fifth, and Brunell (31) in sixth looking to crack the top five. When the green flag waved for what would be the final time, Dellinger (7S) would keep the lead. With Dellinger (7S) still leading, lap 19 saw Schneider (55) still in second, Fosnaught (73) still in third, Brunell (31) now in fourth, and McGuire (63M) in fifth. The top five would remain the same through lap 23 and on lap 26, Dellinger (7S) would start to contend with lapped-traffic but he was on a rail and would go the distance. Dellinger (7S) led all 30 laps of the 9th Annual Ed Laboon Memorial. Following him to the line was Schneider (55) in second, Fosnaught (73) in third, Brunell (31) in fourth, McGuire (63M) in fifth, Humanic (17) in sixth, Curtis J Bish (29) in seventh, Weldon (45) in eighth, Randy Wyant (11T) in ninth, and Steve D’Apolito (84) would round out the top 10.
Seven cars would start the eight-lap Non-Quailifyers feature with Jason Black (5B) starting on the pole. To his outside and starting in second was Ryan Moyer (13X). Cam Kraisinger (47) would start in third, while Jacob Billyk (4) started in fourth, Jamie L Maxwell (6) started in fifth, Bill Slade (A22) started in sixth, and Brad Koteles (33K) started in seventh. When the green flag waved, Black (5B) would keep the early lead, with Moyer (13X) in second, and Kraisinger (47) in third. The top three would remain the same through lap six and Black (5B) would go the distance in record fashion picking up the win. Following him to the line was Moyer (13X) in second, Kraisinger (47) in third, Slade (A22) in fourth, Billyk (4) in fifth, Maxwell (6) in sixth, and B. Koteles (33K) in seventh.
In the Diehl Automotive RUSH Late Model Dirt Series 20-lap feature, Zarin (1Z) would start on the pole. To his outside and starting in second was John Mollick (60M), from Toronto, Ohio. Cole Petrelle (184), from Weirton, West Virginia, would start in third, and Bill Kessler (09), from Freedom, would complete the top two starting rows. When the green light turned on, the caution was out by turn one when Eric Hamilton Jr (33X), from Mcdonald, and Kassidy Kamicker (72B), from Aliquippa, got tangled up in turn one. A complete restart would ensue. The field would come under green-flag conditions with Zarin (1Z) leading, but another caution would slow the pace on lap two. Zarin (1Z) would choose the inside on the restart and he had Mollick (60M) to his outside in second place. Lap seven had Zarin (1Z) still leading, Mollick (60M) still in second, ninth-starting Tommy Schirnhofer (8S) in third, Jake Gunn (14G) in fourth, and Kessler (09) in fifth. The top four would remain the same with four laps to go and Ben Policz (14B) cracking the top five in fifth place. Schirnhofer (8S) would eventually pass Mollick (60M) for second and had his eyes set on the leader but the night belonged to Zarin (1Z) who led all 20 laps of the event, picking up his first RUSH Late Model Dirt Series win at PPMS. Following him to the line was Schirnhofer (8S) in second, Mollick (60M) in third, Policz (14B) in fourth, Gunn (14G) in fifth, Mike Duritsky (90J) in sixth, Kessler (09) in seventh, Justin Lamb (93X) in eighth, Nico Dabecco (42D) in ninth, and Tony White (27T) would round out the top 10. The heat race winners were Duritsky (90J) and Schirnhofer (8S).
The Keystone Coach Works Hobby Stocks can have some of the best racing of the evening and Saturday night didn’t disappoint. Jeff Cencerik (6) would start on the pole. To his outside and starting in second was Tom Anton (64), from Jefferson Hills. John Cain (06) would start in third, and Karlee Kovacs (221K), from Carnegie, would complete the second row in fourth. When the green flag dropped, Kovacs (221K) would steal the early lead, but track officials didn’t like the start and a complete redo was in order. When the green light came on, Kovacs (221K), Stephen Shelpman (17S), and Cody Koteles (1K) would go three-wide going into turn one, and C.Koteles (1K) would have the lead by lap three. C. Koteles (1K) was still leading on lap five, but S. Shelpman was trying to steal the lead. The two had a spirited battle and would trade paint a few times. Lap nine saw another caution and would slow the pace. C. Koteles (1K) would lead the field on the restart with S. Shelpman (17S) in second, and Kovacs (221K) in third. Again, C.Koteles (1K) would keep the lead even with the pressure from S. Shelpman (17S). Another caution would come on lap 10 and S. Shelpman’s (17S) car began to smoke. S. Shelpman (17S) would pull into the pits under caution and would be done for the evening with an unknown issue. With five laps to go, C. Koteles (1K) would bring the field back to green-flag conditions, but yet another caution would come on lap 11. C. Koteles (1K) would choose the outside on the restart and would keep the lead with four laps remaining in the event. C. Koteles (1K) would go the distance and pick up his first Keystone Coach Works Hobby Stock victory. Following to the line was Ben Anton (13) in second, Cain (06) in third, Kovacs (221K) in fourth, Matt Benard (15) in fifth, Ed Shelpman (17P) in sixth, T. Anton (64) in seventh, Marcus Simmons (68X) in eighth, Andrew Sutton (16A) in ninth, and Robert Betz (22) in tenth. The heat race winners were S. Shelpman (17S) and Frank Magill (05). Notables: Ben Anton started fifteenth and finished second.
The Four Cylinders would race twin features and Philip Bubeck (2L) would dominate both of them. In the makeup feature, P. Bubeck (2L) would start on the pole and lead the entire event. Bill Tennant (2), from Colliers West Virginia, finished in second, Janas (88) in third, April Tennant (95) in fourth, and Jason Reynolds (53) completed the five-car field. In the regular 10-lap feature, Craig Rudolph (5R), from Steubenville, Ohio, would start on the pole. To his outside and starting in second was Janas (88). Starting in third was B. Tennant (2), while A. Tennant (95) started in fourth, Reynolds (53) started in fifth, P. Bubeck (2L) started in sixth, and Lucas Weaver (11W) rounded out the seven-car field. When the green flag dropped, Janas (88) would take the early lead over the field but by lap two, P. Bubeck (2L) was already in second place. At the halfway point, P. Bubeck (2L) would take the lead, and B. Tennant (2) would follow him into second place, which knocked Janas (88) back to third. Lap six saw the front-runners making their way through lapped-traffic in only a seven-car field. P. Bubeck (2L) would go the distance and go two for two on the night picking up another PPMS Four Cylinder win. Following him to the line was B. Tennant (2) in second, Janas (88) in third, A. Tennant (95) in fourth, Reynolds (53) in fifth, Weaver (11W) in sixth, and C. Rudolph (5R) in seventh. The heat race winner from 8.8.20 was P. Bubeck (2L) the Four Cylinders did not run a heat race on 8.15.20
The Young Guns six-lap feature saw Cameron Hollister (44), from McDonald, starting on the pole. To his outside and starting in second was Wyatt Mock (88). Dylan Clipp (69), from Burgettstown, started in third, and Noah Bubeck (2) completed the four-car field. When the green flag dropped, Hollister (44) kept the early lead, but N. Bubeck (2) would take the lead at the line. At the halfway point, N. Bubeck was still leading, Mock (88) was in second, Clipp (69) in third, and Hollister (44) in fourth. N. Bubeck would go the distance, leading all six laps of the event. Following him to the line was Mock (88) in second, Clipp (69) in third, and Hollister (44) in fourth. The Young Guns did not run a heat race.
