ferree wins the cheplic packing hobby stock series wee willie white memorial

Imperial, PA

Cody Koteles (1K), from Stockdale, was dominating the Cheplic Packing Hobby Stock Series earlier this season when he won the first two mini-series events at PPMS. The third race in the series would go to defending track champion, Frank Magill (05), from Jefferson Hills. Race number four in the Cheplic Packing Hobby Stock series would be paired with the “Wee” Willie White Memorial on Saturday night at Dirt’s Monster Half Mile and the payout would be increased from $500 to win to $1,055 to win thanks to Carnegie Beer Outlet, Hoods Up Quick Lube, Tomei's Towing, Crewl's Landscaping, the Carly Langer Family, John Gill Racing, Weldon Racing, Castleveter Landscaping, Cleetus Motorsports, the 221K Race Team, and Dobs Auto.

On Saturday night, PPMS would see qualifying for the Hobby Stocks, seven heat races, a six-lap Dash, and five feature events, including race number four in the Cheplic Packing Hobby Stock Series the “Wee” Willie White Memorial. Adam Ferree (29), from Jefferson Hills, would win the “Wee” Willie White Memorial after an epic side-by-side battle with Tony Magill (5), also from Jefferson Hills. In Rohrich RUSH Late Model action, Cole Petrelle (84), from Follansbee, West Virginia, would pick up another win when he won their 20-lap feature on Saturday night. Nick Kocuba (10), from Burgettstown, would make it two wins in a row for the Penn Ohio Pro Stocks while Bill Tennant (2), from Colliers, West Virginia would pick up another win in the Crawford Auto Repair Four Cylinder Feature, and Zoey Knight (78Z), from Plum, would pick up another win for the All Ways Safe Flagging And Traffic Control Young Guns.

Gary Koteles (65K), from Stockdale, set the fast time in qualifying for the Cheplic Packing Hobby Stock Series Race number four, the “Wee” Willie White Memorial, with a time of 23.584. The next six fastest drivers were less than a second off of the fast time. After qualifying, the field was broken into two heat races with the top three from each heat entering the redraw for the six-lap dash. Ferree (29) would go on to win the dash and lock himself into the pole position for the 20-lap “Wee” Willie White Memorial.

With Ferree (29) starting on the pole, he had Stephen Shelpman (17S), from Pleasant Hills, starting to his outside in second. C. Koteles (1K), and T. Magill (5) would start third and fourth respectively. After the four-wide salute and a beautiful fireworks display, it was showtime. Ferree (29) would jump out to an early lead at the start of the event while C. Koteles (1K) had car trouble on lap two and would retire to the pits which ended his night. Lap four had Ferree (29) in the lead with T. Magill (5) in second, G. Koteles (65K) in third, Logan Koteles (64K) in fourth, and Shelpman (17S) in fifth. The event’s first caution would come on that same lap four when Leroy Brown (74) and Marc Corio (14) got together in turn two which caused both of them to spin out. Ferree (29) would choose the inside on the restart and when green replaced yellow, he would keep his lead over the field. Another caution came only a few laps later when Tom Anton (64) spun out in turn two. Ferree (29) would again choose the inside on the restart with T. Magill (5) to his outside. When the field returned to green flag action, Ferree (29) briefly kept his lead but T. Magill (5) would take over the lead instead. Lap eight had T. Magill (5) now in the lead, G. Koteles (65K) now in second, Ferree (29) had fallen to third, F. Magill (05) in fourth, and Logan Koteles (64K) holding down the fifth spot. Another caution would come on lap 11 when Karlee Kovacs (221K) hit the outside wall on the back chute. With nine laps to go, T. Magill (5) would choose the outside on the restart and he would keep his lead over the field with Ferree (29) now running behind him in second. For the next several laps, Ferree (29) and T. Magill (5) would run side by side with Ferree (29) staying to the low side and T. Magill (5) staying in the outside groove. They traded the lead several times as Ferree (29) would get a good run coming through turns 3 and four with T. Magill (5) getting a good run coming out of turn two. Then with three laps remaining in the event, Ferree (29) would make a clean pass for the lead. Despite T. Magill (5) giving it all he had, Ferree (29) would lead the remaining three laps, en route to his first Cheplic Packing Hobby Stock series win. T. Magill (5) finished a close second, L. Koteles (64K) third, Benard (15) fourth, and Ben Anton (13) rounded out the top five. The heat race winners were G. Koteles (65K), and C. Koteles (1K). Marc Corio (14) was awarded the Hard Charger award. The top three Hobby Stock drivers had their engines cubic inch checked at tech after the race, and all three were found to be legal.

In the Rohrich RUSH Dirt Late Model feature, Kassidy Kamicker (72B), from Aliquippa, would start on the pole. Starting to her outside in second was Tim Shaffer (45), also from Aliquippa. The second row had Cole Petrelle (84) starting third, and Dave Goble (20G), from Aliquippa, starting in fourth. When the green flag dropped, Shaffer (45) would pull away with the early lead and Kamicker (72B) would settle in behind him in second. Shaffer (45) continued to lead through lap four when Petrelle (84) was able to pass Kamicker (72B) for second which knocked her back to third. Petrelle (84) was right behind Shaffer (45) on lap six, when he would pass Shaffer (45) for the lead. With the race going green to checkers in record fashion, Petrelle (84) was able to lead all of the remaining laps of the event and he would pick up another late model win. Shaffer (45) would finish second, Kamicker (72B) third, D. Goble (20G) fourth, and points leader Phillip Bubeck (4) would complete the top five. The heat race winner was Shaffer (45).

The Penn Ohio Pro Stocks were up next and they had Frank Magill (05) starting on the pole for their 15-lap feature event. Daryl Charlier (21), from Midway, would start in second as he was driving his wife’s car, while division points leader, AJ Poljak (36), from Baldwin, would start in third, and Kocuba (10) would start in fourth. When the green flag waved, Kocuba (10) would come from his P4 starting spot to steal the early lead. Lap three had Kocuba (10) still leading with Charlier (21) in second, Poljak (36) in third, Dale Tuche (310) in fourth, and Jacob Billyk (4) in fifth. At the end of lap four, Brian Huchko (60H) would move into the fifth spot, and then two laps later, he would take over the fourth spot. On lap seven, Poljak (36) would take second away from Charlier (21) as Kocuba (10) continued to lead the field. With five laps to go in the event, Kocuba (10) entered lapped traffic and continued to distance himself from the rest of the field. Kocuba (10) would lead all laps of the event and he would pick up his second PPMS Penn Ohio Pro Stock win in a row. Poljak (36) finished second, Huchko (60H) finished third, Charlier (21) finished fourth, and Jacob Billyk (4) would complete the top five. The heat race winners were Charlier (21) and Poljak (36).

In the Crawford Auto Repair Four Cylinder eight-lap feature, B. Tennant (2) would start on the pole. Travis Clark (05T), from Pittsburgh, would start in second while Craig Rudolph (5R), from Steubenville, Ohio, would start in third, and Travis Corbin (2R), would complete the top two starting rows. At the drop of the green flag, B. Tennant (2) would jump out to an early lead with Corbin (2R) following him into second place. The event’s lone caution would come on lap three for a car that spun out in turn two. B. Tennant (2) would choose the outside on the restart and he would keep his lead over the field. B. Tennant (2) would lead all laps of the event and he would pick up another Crawford Auto Repair Four Cylinder win. Corbin (2R) finished second, Andy Garlinger (5) finished third, Craig Rudolph (5R) finished fourth, and Clark (05T) rounded out the top five. The heat race winner was B. Tennant (2).

Last but not least was the All Ways Safe Flagging and Traffic Control Young Guns and Zoey Knight (78Z) would start on the pole. Starting to her outside in second place was Paige Jones (67). The second row had Gavin Kokolis (91) starting third, and Abby Gindlesperger (05) starting fourth. When the green flag dropped, Knight (78Z) would take off with the early lead. Lap two had Knight (78Z) still in the lead, Gindlesperger (05) in second, and Emmerson Laboon (114) in third. At the halfway point, Knight (78Z) continued to grow her lead, and Laboon (114) would enter the pits with an unknown car issue and she would be done for the evening. The event ran caution free with Knight (78Z) leading all laps and picking up another Young Guns win. She was followed by Gindlesperger (05) in second, Kokolis (91) in third,  P. Jones (67) fourth, and Sadie Snatchko (56) fifth. The heat race winner was Laboon (114).
