After a week off, racing was back in action on Saturday night at Dirt’s Monster Half Mile as the fastest cars on dirt would come to town. The FAST 410 Winged Sprint Car Series would headline the show for Falconi’s Moon Township Automotive Night. PPMS would see qualifying, 11 heat races, and six feature events. Dan Kuriger (08), from Rochester, would pick up his second win of the season when he won the FAST 410 Sprint Car Series 20-lap feature. Ben Policz (14B), from Rices Landing, picked up his fourth win of the season when he won the 20-lap Rohrich RUSH Late Model Feature. Chris Schneider (55), from Lower Burrell, won the 15-lap Penn Ohio Pro Stock feature, while Gary Koteles (65K), from Stockdale, picked up his second win of the season for the Cheplic Packing Hobby Stocks. Travis Corbin (2R) would snag another win for the Crawford Auto Repair Four Cylinders, and Emmerson Laboon (114), from Elizabeth, would pick up another win for the All Ways Safe Young Guns.
22 FAST 410 Winged Sprint Cars were signed into Dirt’s Monster Half Mile on Saturday night. They were broken into three groups for hot laps and then the same for qualifying. Dan Kuriger (08) set the time to beat at 18.059. Brandon Matus (13), from Wampum, had the second fast time with a time of 18.210. After qualifying, the field was broken into three heat races with the winner of each heat making it into the redraw along with the fastest qualifier from each group. Kuriger (08) would win his respective heat race and eventually draw the number one starting spot in their 20-lap feature. With Kuriger (08) starting on the pole, he had Carl Bowser (11), from Freeport, starting in second. Brandon Matus (13) would start on the inside of the second row in third, and Dale Blaney (32), from Hartford, Ohio, would start on the outside in fourth. When the green flag dropped, Kuriger (08) would take the early lead as Bowser (11) followed him into second. The event’s lone caution would come on lap three for a car that spun out in turn two. Kuriger (08) would lead the single-foul restart and he would keep his lead. The halfway point had Kuriger (08) still leading, Matus (13) in second, Blaney (32) in third, and Jack Sodeman Jr (23JR) in fourth. After an early race caution, the next 17 laps would run green to checkered with Kuriger (08) picking up the win. He was followed by Matus (13) in second, Lee Jacobs (81) in third, Dale Blaney (32) in fourth, and Brandon Spithhaler (19) would round out the top five. The heat race winners were Dan Kuriger (08), Bob Felmlee (6), and Carl Bowser (11).
In the Rohrich RUSH Late Model 20-lap feature, Kyle Lukon (184), from Burgettstown, would start on the inside pole with Dan Lepro (2L), from Midway, to his outside starting in second. When the green flag waved, Lukon (184L) and Lepro (2L) would trade slide jobs for the first couple of laps with Lukon (184) coming out on top by lap three. The event’s first caution would come on lap four and Lukon (184) would take the outside on the restart with Lepro (2L) to his inside. Lukon (184) would keep his lead when green replaced yellow but Lepro (2L) would fall out of the top five. Another caution would come on lap eight when Jake Gunn (14G) had car trouble on the backstretch. Lukon (184) would again choose the outside on the restart but this time he had Policz (14B) to his inside in second. This time the field would complete two more laps before the caution was out again. This time when green replaced yellow, the field wouldn’t get a lap completed before another incident occurred that involved Lukon (184) as he was leading the event. Something appeared to have broken on the right side of his car and it sent him hard into the wall. He was okay and so were the other drivers involved in another incident under the same caution. Once everything was cleaned up, the field would return to green flag conditions with Policz (14B) as their new leader. Despite one more caution and an awesome effort by Mike Reft (9R), Policz (14B) would go the distance and pick up the win. Reft (9R) would finish second, Tim Shaffer (45) third, Cole Petrelle (84) fourth, and Jake Gunn (17G) would complete the top five. The heat race winners were Brandon Burgoon (5X) and Kyle Lukon (184).
In the PPMS Penn Ohio Pro Stock 15-lap feature, Brian Huchko (60H) would take the early lead. Lap three had Huchko (60H) still leading, Christian Schneider (56) in second, and Chris Schneider (55) in third. Lap 11 brought the only caution for the event and Huchko (60H) would choose the outside with four laps remaining in the event. On lap 13, the top three drivers would go three-wide down the front stretch into turns one and two. Chris Schneider (55) would take the white flag as the new leader and Huchko (60H) would fall back to third. Chris Schneider (55) would go on to win the event and pick up another PPMS Penn Ohio Pro Stock win. He was followed by Christian Schneider (56) in second, Huchko (60H), in third, Cody Koteles (1K) in fourth, and Jordan Perkins (13J) in fifth. The heat race winners were Chris Schneider (55) and Huchko (60H).
In the Cheplic Packing Hobby Stock Feature, Gary Koteles (65K) would come away with the early lead by lap two. Lap three had G. Koteles (65K) still leading, Jonathan Koteles (2K) in second, and Logan Koteles (64K) in third. Lap six would see the event's first caution and G. Koteles (65K) would choose the outside on the restart and he would keep his lead over the field when they returned to green flag conditions. Another caution would come on lap eight when a car spun out in turn two. G. Koteles (65K) would again choose the outside on the restart with Matt Benard (15) now to his inside in second. When the green flag waved for the final time in the event, G. Koteles (65K) would keep his lead and lead all remaining laps in the event en route to picking up his second Cheplic Packing Hobby Stock win of the season. He was followed by Benard (15) in second, Tony Magill (5) in third, Jonathan Koteles (2K) in fourth, and Garrett O’Patchen (25) would round out the top five. The heat race winners were Gary Koteles (65K) and Frank Magill (05).
The Crawford Auto Repair Four Cylinder eight-lap feature was up next and when the green flag dropped, Travis Corbin (2R) would pull away with the early lead. Lap two had Corbin (2R) still leading, April Tennant (2A) in second, and Noah Bubeck (2) in third. The event would run caution free with Corbin (2R) picking up the win. April Tennant (2A) finished second, John Gill (19G) third, Travis Clark (05T) fourth, and Hemi Kineston (05) rounded out the top five. The heat race winner was Corbin (2R).
Last but not least was the All Ways Safe Young Guns six-lap feature and Sadie Snatchko (56) would start on the pole. Gavin Kokolis (91) would start in second, while Abby Gindlesperger (05) would start in third, Emmerson Laboon (114) in fourth, and Paige Jones (67J) would complete the top five starting spots. When the green flag waved and the field raced through turns one and two, contact was made and since it’s a no-contact division, track officials made the call to black flag the car that made the contact. Since a lap wasn’t completed, the field would line up for a complete restart. This time, Laboon (114) would pull away with the early lead over the field. The race would run caution free after the mishap at the start of the event. Laboon (114) would lead all six laps and pick up the win. Zoey Knight (78Z) finished second, Kokolis (91) third, Jones (67J) fourth, and Snatchko (56) fifth. The heat race winner was Emmerson Laboon (114).
