MATUS AND BRIGHT WIN THE SPRINT CAR DOUBLE HEADER FOR THE SEASON FINALE AT PPMS

Imperial, PA

Hues of red, orange and yellow painted the woodline at Dirt’s Monster Half Mile with a crisp fall-like breeze in the air as drivers and race fans alike would gather for the season finale on Saturday night. A 410 Sprint Car doubleheader would headline the evening with Falconi’s Moon Township Auto Winged Sprint Car Series and the Buckeye Outlaw Sprint Series (BOSS) on the card for the 2022 season finale. PPMS would see qualifying, eight heat races, and six feature events. Alex Bright (20), from New Castle, won the BOSS Wingless Sprint 25-lap feature, while Brandon Matus (13), from Wampum, brought home the win for the Falconi’s Moon Township Auto 410 Winged Sprint Car Series. Logan Koteles (65K), from Stockdale, picked up his fifth win of the season for the Cheplic Packing Hobby Stocks as he was driving his dad's car. Kole Holden (2), from Tiona, picked up another win for the RUSH Sportsman Modifieds, while Noah Bubeck (2), from Colliers, West Virginia, got another win for the Crawford Auto Repair Four Cylinders, and Sadie Snatchko (56), from Oakdale, picked up her second win of the season for the All Ways Safe Young Guns.

At the start of the BOSS 410 Wingless 25-lap feature, John Mollick (4J), from Toronto, OH would take the early lead. Mollick (4J) would lead until lap four when he would smack the outside wall coming out of turn two which knocked him off of the pace and it allowed Bright (20) to take over the lead. Mollick (4J) would keep going but would eventually fall off of the pace again which brought out the event’s first caution and Mollick (4J) would retire to the pits. Bright (20) would lead the single foul restart and keep his lead when the field returned to green flag conditions. The front runners would eventually enter lapped traffic. After the lap four caution, the race ran green to checkered with Bright (20) picking up the win. He was followed by Brian Ruhlman (49) in second, Isaac Chapple (52) in third, Chad Ruhlman (49C) in fourth, and Carmen Perigo (21P) would complete the top five. The heat race winners were Andre Layfield (21L), Matt Westfall (33M), and John Mollick (4J).

The Falconi’s Moon Township Auto Winged Sprint Car Feature would start 14 cars with Jeremy Weaver (5), from Stoneboro, starting on the pole. Carl Bowser (11), from Freeport, would line up next to him in second. The second row consisted of Wayne McPeek (1MC), from Mineral Wells, West Virginia, starting third, and Dan Kuriger (08), from Rochester, started in fourth. When the green flag dropped, Weaver (35W) appeared to have the early lead until Bowser (11) came flying on the outside and would take over the lead on the exit of turn two. The event’s first caution would come soon after as Weaver (35W) had car trouble and fell off of the pace on the front stretch. Bowser (11) would lead the single foul restart and he would keep his lead over the field when green replaced yellow. Also on the restart, Kuriger (08) would move up to second and McPeek (1MC) was in third. On lap two, Matus (13) would take second away from Kuriger (08) with Bowser (11F) still leading the field. The front runners would enter lapped traffic by the seventh frame with Bowser (11) and Matus (13) still running one and two respectively. Matus (13) would catch Bowser (11) in lapped traffic and he would take over the lead on lap 10 but Bowser (11) would regain the lead not even a full lap later as Matus (13) got hung up by a lapped car on the low side as Bowser (11) flew past him on the outside. But, on lap 12, Matus (13) would regain the lead and another caution would slow the pace on lap 13 for the 76 of Davey Jones who had car trouble in turn four. Matus (13) would lead the single-foul restart with Bowser (11) in tow, and Kuriger (08) in third. Kuriger (08) would take over second eventually and another caution would come on lap 14 when Brandon Spithaler (22) had car trouble in turn two. Matus (13) would lead the single-foul restart and he would lead the remaining laps of the event en route to his first PPMS Falconi Auto 410 Outlaw Winged Sprint Car win of the season. He was followed by Kuriger (08) in second, Bowser (11) in third, Brent Matus (33) in fourth, and Wayne McPeek (1MC) rounding out the top five. The heat race winners were Carl Bowser (11) and Kyle Colewell (58).

In the Cheplic Packing Hobby Stock 15-lap feature, Matt Benard (15), from Oakdale, would start on the pole. Starting to his outside in second was Karlee Kovacs (221K), from Carnegie. Row two had Emmerson Laboon (17S), from Elizabeth, starting in third, and Logan Koteles (65K), started in fourth. At the drop of the green flag, Koteles (65K) and Benard (15) would battle side-by-side for the lead with Koteles (65K) gaining control of it on lap two. Once the field spread out and got into their initial spots, they stayed in them the entire race with the event going green the checkered in record fashion. Koteles (65K) would pick up his fifth win of the season and he was followed by Benard (15) in second, Garrett O’Patchen (25) in third, Kovacs (221K) in fourth, and Jacob Wiser (0U2) rounded out the top five. The heat race winner was Garrett O’Patchen (25) and it was his first career win.

Jacob Jordan (28J), from Aliquippa, would start on the pole for the RUSH Sportsman Modified 15-lap feature. Doug Rutaha (46R) would start in second while Kole Holden (2) would start in third, and Lucas Canon (2LC) rounded out the four-car field. When the green flag dropped, Holden (2) would take the early lead at the line with Rutaha (46R) settling behind him in second. Once the four-car field got spread out on the track, they all kept their same positions the entire race with Holden (2) getting another PPMS RUSH Sportsman Modified win. He was followed to the line by Rutaha (46R) in second, Jordan (28J) in third, and Canon (2LC) in fourth. The heat race winner was Doug Rutaha (46R).

In the Young Guns feature, Sadie Snatchko (56) started on the pole with Gavin Kokolis (91) rounding out the two-car field. At the start of the event, Snatchko (56) took the early lead with Kokolis (91) following her into second. Snatchko led the first two laps with Kokolis (91) trailing. By lap four Snatchko (56) had a half of a straightaway lead over Kokolis (91) when she spun out in turn four bringing out the event’s lone caution. Kokolis (91) chose the outside on the restart and when green replaced yellow, Snatchko (56) would take over where she left off before she brought out the caution retaking the lead. She would lead the remaining four laps of the event en route to her second win of the season. Kokolis (91) finished second. The Young Guns did not run a heat race.

Last but not least was the Crawford Auto Repair Four Cylinder feature and Brad Dickey (10) would start on the pole with Bubeck (2) starting to the outside in second. Travis Corbin (2R) would start in third while Bill Tennant (2A) would start in fourth, and John Gill (19G) would round out the five-car starting filed. When the green flag dropped, Bubeck (2) would take the early lead but Tennant (2A) would have the lead at the line. Lap three had Bubeck (2) still leading, Tennant (2A) in second, and Gill (19G) in third. Just like a few of the other races, once the cars got spread out, they mostly kept their spots throughout the racing which ran caution free. Bubeck (2) would pick up the win followed by Tennant (2A) in second, Gill (19G) in third, Dickey (10) in fourth, and Corbin (2R) completed the five-car field. The heat race winner was Bill Tennant (2A).

Racing resumes at Dirt’s Monster Half Mile in the spring of 2023. Miley Motor Sports would like to thank all of the race teams and race fans for their love and dedication that they show week in and week out at PPMS. We couldn’t do it without them! Happy Racing!
