Pittsburgh Pennsylvania Motor Speedway
autograph night is a success at ppms (Full write up & results)
Imperial, PA (July 9, 2023)
One of the biggest crowds of the season was on-hand at Dirt’s Monster Half Mile on Saturday evening for autograph night presented by Rohrich Automotive, and it was also Berks $1 hotdog night and Scout night. PPMS would see eight heat races and six feature events.
Kole Holden (2), from Tiona, would pick up his second win in a row for the RUSH Sportsman Modifieds. Kyle Lukon (184L), from Burgettstown, would pick up another win for the RUSH Late Models, while Cody Koteles (1K), from Stockdale, got the win for the Penn Ohio Pro Stocks, and younger brother, Logan Koteles (64K), from Stockdale, picked up another win for the Hobby Stocks. Kyle Janas (88), from Coraopolis, made it three in a row for the Crawford Auto Repair Four Cylinders, and Travis Clark (56), from Pittsburgh, got the win for the All Ways Safe Young Guns as he was diving Sadie Snatchko’s car.
In the RUSH Sportsman Modified 15-lap feature, Holden (2) would start on the pole with Chelsie Kriegisch (10), from Ellwood City, starting on the outside, while Jeff Watson (1*) would complete the three-car field. When the green flag waved, Holden (2) would take the early lead. With only a three-car field, the race would go green to checkers in no time at all with Holden (2) picking up the win. Kriegisch (10) would finish second, and Watson (1*) third.
19 Rohrich RUSH Late Models were on hand and Kyle Lukon (184L) would start on the pole for their 20-lap feature event. Starting on the outside and in second was Cole Petrelle (184), from Follansbee, West Virginia. Zach Gunn (17G), from McDonald, would start third, and Ben Policz (14B), from Rices Landing, would start fourth. When the green flag waved, Lukon (184L) and Petrelle (184) would battle for first through the first few laps of the event with Lukon (184L) eventually out front. However, a lap three caution would slow the pace and rerack the field. Lukon (184L) would choose the outside on the restart and when green replaced yellow, he would retain his lead over the field. Petrelle (184) would begin to fade but Brandon Burgoon (5X) would begin to climb his way through the field coming from his P11 starting spot. Lukon would lead the remaining laps of the event and go on to pick up another PPMS Rohrich RUSH Late Model win. He was followed by Burgoon (5X) in second, Garret Paugh (03) in second, Tommy Schirnhofer (8S) in fourth, and Jake Gunn (14G) in fifth. The heat race winners were Zach Gunn (17G) and Garret Paugh (03).
The Penn Ohio Pro Stock 15-lap feature was up next and Mike Harris (18), from Bridgeville, would start on the pole. Starting in second was Nick Kocuba (10), from Burgettstown. When the green flag waved, P4 starting, Brett McDonald (25) would come away with the early lead. The event’s first caution would come on lap five. McDonald would choose the outside on the restart with Jordan Perkins (13J) to his inside. When green replaced yellow, McDonald would keep his lead over the field with AJ Poljak (36) now in second. It would appear that McDonald had it in the bag but Cody Koteles (1K) would make a late race pass to pick up the win. McDonald (25) settled for second, Poljak (36) third, Dale Tuche (310) fourth, and Harris (18) would complete the top five. The heat race winners were Harris (18) and Nick Kocuba (10).
In the PPMS Hobby Stock 15-lap feature, Marc Corio (14), from South Fayette, would start on the pole. Starting to his outside in second was Leroy Brown (40B), from Aliquippa. Starting in third was Logan Koteles (64K) and completing the second row was Jonathan Koteles (2K), from Stockdale. When the green flag dropped, Corio (14) would take the early lead, but a lap two caution for an incident in turn four would reset the field. When the field returned to green flag conditions, L. Koteles (64K) would take over the lead by lap five. Despite pressure from P8 starting, Stephen Shelpman (17P), L. Koteles (64K) would hold on for another Hobby Stock win. Shelpman (17P) would take second, Matt Benard (15) third, Corio (14) fourth, and Tyler Fox (39F) would round out the top five. The heat race winners were Matt Benard (15) and Stephen Shelpman (17P).
The Crawford Auto Repair eight-lap feature was up next and Eric Reynolds (53), from Sewickley, would start on the pole. John Gill (69), from Burgettstown, would start on the outside in second. When the green flag waved, Gill (69) would take the early lead. Lap three had Gill (69) still leading, and Janas (88) staying on his rear bumper in second. It appeared that Gill (69) would pick up the win, but Janas (88) would pass him on the last lap to pick up his third win in a row. Gill (69) would settle for second, Reynolds (53) in third, Susie Rudolph (5R) in fourth, and Tony Kloss (97) would round out the top five. The heat race winner was Kyle Janas (88).
Last but not least was the All Ways Safe Flagging And Traffic Control Young Guns 12-lap feature and Kiersten Chernik (5X), from Oakdale, would start on the pole. AJ Manganello (50) would start to the outside in second. When the green flag waved, Chernik (5X) would take the early lead. She would lead through lap four when Clark (56) took over the lead. Clark (56) would lead the remaining eight laps of the event, en route to pick up his first win of the season. Chernik (5X) would finish second, Evan Strouse (54) third, Manganello (50) fourth, and Paige Jones (67) would complete the top five. The heat race winner was Travis Clark (56).
