Pittsburgh Pennsylvania Motor Speedway
Pittsburgher Prepared to Deliver in 2023
We are just one month away from a Pittsburgh tradition: the Pittsburgher. The 35th annual running of this event will begin on Friday, September 29th, featuring night one of the Bill Hendren Memorial for the RUSH Late Model Touring Series, the Bob Walters Memorial for the Penn Ohio Pro Stocks, and our TMT Transportation Action Event divisions. On Saturday, September 30th, the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Pittsburgher presented by Big River Steel takes center stage, offering $30,000 to the winner of the 75 lap A-Main – the largest purse in speedway history. The RUSH Late Models will return for night two of the Bill Hendren Memorial, which features a 50-lap A-main. They will compete for a coveted $10,000 to win top prize.
Perhaps no Pittsburgher has ever been held to such importance. In December of 2022, the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series announced a new elimination-style format to determine the series champion, with the final elimination race taking place at Pittsburgh's Pennsylvania Motor Speedway. To this point, the field has been narrowed down to just eight drivers who remain in contention for the series championship. Upon the completion of the Pittsburgher, that number will reduce to just four. These four drivers will then advance to Eldora Speedway for the Dirt Track World Championship, where the highest finisher among them will earn the championship honors.
Alongside this new format, a change in speedway ownership has injected new life into this event. "We have received feedback from numerous people about the significance of the Pittsburgher," states owner Blair Cress Jr. Cress further adds, "Race fans from both near and far make it a priority to attend this event, which is very humbling. We aspire to provide a show that will entice people to keep coming back."
Several announcements are being made to enhance the fan experience for this event. Discounted pre-sale tickets are currently available. Fans can purchase these advanced tickets online at ppms.com until Saturday, September 23rd at 11:30 pm. Alternatively, tickets can also be purchased on race nights at the speedway from 8 pm to 9 pm, weather permitting. During this pre-sale period, adult tickets will be reduced to $40 for grandstand admission and $60 for full-access pit admission. After September 23rd, pricing will return to $50 for grandstand admission and $75 for full-access pit admission.
Furthermore, plans for post-race entertainment on Friday and pre-race festivities for Saturday are currently in the works. Friday will feature a live DJ near our campsite area upon the completion of the racing program. A cornhole tournament, a live DJ, and a driver autograph session are a few of the attractions that fans will get to enjoy for Saturday. A complete schedule of events and additional details will be released in the upcoming weeks.
