Historic $50,000 to Win Pittsburgher Set for Two Nights in 2024
Christmas has come early for race fans as the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series released their 2024 racing schedule. The Pittsburgher was highlighted as one of the twelve crown jewel events on the schedule and perhaps rightfully so. Coming off of the most successful event in recent years, it has been announced that the 36th Annual Pittsburgher presented by Big River Steel will now host two nights of racing with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series for the first time since 2018. Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series competitors will now race on Friday, October 4th, 2024 for $10,000 to win and a total purse of $48,575 for a complete show. When they return on Saturday, October 5th, they will compete for an historic $50,000 to win and a total purse of $150,000. This event is set to be the richest in the 45 year history of Pittsburgh's Pennsylvania Motor Speedway.
"The support that we received from both fans and drivers at this past Pittsburgher was incredible." explained speedway owner Blair Cress Jr. Cress continued "To see the place filled like that was humbling. We feel that we owe it to not only the dedicated race fans in our area, but to the entire Pittsburgh region to host an event of this size and importance."
Some highlights of the 36th Annual Pittsburgher will remain consistent. The event will once again be featured in the "Chase for the Championship" format, which was structured ahead of the 2023 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series season. Additionally, Big River Steel, a U.S. Steel Company based in Arkansas, returns as the presenting sponsor of the Pittsburgher.
In addition to the Lucas Oil Late Models, the RUSH Late Model Touring Series returns with the Bill Hendren Memorial, continuing its traditional two night format. RUSH Late Model drivers are set to compete for $4,000 to win complete show during the Friday program. They will continue the following night, boasting a $10,000 to win feature event. "We are just thrilled to see the Pittsburgher continue to grow with the new ownership at PPMS." states RUSH Series Director Vicki Emig. Emig continues, "It's an honor to be able to showcase Chevrolet Performance crate engine late model racing at a marquee event such as the Pittsburgher. To do this in memory of Bill Hendren makes it even more special to the RUSH racing series."
The next event at PPMS will take place on Sunday, December 10th featuring the Race to Christmas Tree Lighting event. This is a free to attend community event with an option to purchase tickets to Santa's Pit Stop Experience. The event will take place at the speedway from 2PM to 6PM.
Pittsburgh's Pennsylvania Motor Speedway continues to develop its 2024 racing schedule in hopes of having a formal release in a few short weeks. The season will get under way on Saturday, March 16th with the Pot of Gold 75. The St. Patrick's Day weekend event will feature the FAST on Dirt 410 Sprint Car Series, the ULMS Racing Series, and the SCDRA Northeast Sport Compacts.
