Full Write Up Results For 6.8.24 | 13th Annual Ed Laboon Memorial

31 of the region's best Penn Ohio Pro Stock Championship Series drivers were on hand at Dirt’s Monster Half Mile on Saturday evening fighting for their chance at winning what has become the most prestigious race for the series. PPMS would see qualifying, eight heat races, a six-lap dash, a b main, and five feature events. Christian Schneider (56), from Georgetown, would win the 13th Annual Ed Laboon Memorial and has quickly become one of the area’s most dominating Pro Stock drivers. Ben Policz (14B), from Rices Landing, would pick up another win in the Rohrich Automotive/Chevrolet Performance RUSH Late Model feature, while Logan Koteles (64K), from Stockdale, picked up his third win in a row in the Fuel Required Hobby Stock feature. John Gill (19G), from Burgettstown, ended a drought as he won the Crawford Auto Repair Open Four Cylinder feature, and AJ Manganello (50), from Baden, won the All Ways Safe Flagging And Traffic Control Young Guns feature.

The 13th Annual Ed Laboon Memorial for the Canam Sponsored Penn Ohio Pro Stock Championship Series presented by West Mifflin Collision will go down in the history books as one of those events that you’ll never forget and won’t want to forget either. Especially if you are Christian Schneider (56), who used a slick, technical track and lapped traffic to his advantage, as he would go on to win the 13th Annual Ed Laboon Memorial in dominating fashion, a dream come true for the young Penn Ohio Pro Stock Driver. With a time of 20.813, Schneider (56) set the overall fast time for the event, and after winning one of four heat races, and finishing second in the dash, he would start on the outside pole for the 30-lap main event. Starting to his inside and on the pole was three-time Ed Laboon Memorial winner, Chris Schneider (55), from Lower Burrell. The second starting row had Steve D’Apolito, from North Lima, Ohio, starting third, and Tim Bish (7411B), from Ringgold, starting fourth. After driver intros, a four-wide salute, and a beautiful fireworks display, the green flag would drop for the 13th Annual Ed Laboon Memorial. At the start of the event, Schneider (55) and Schneider (56) would run side by side, trading the lead back and forth until lap two when Schnedier (56) was able to take charge of the event with Schneider (55) in tow, and D’Apolito (84) in third. Schneider (55) and Schneider (56) would begin to contend with lapped traffic on lap nine. Christian was able to use the lapped traffic to his advantage. Almost like a game of chess, as he would pick them off one by one and begin to distance himself from Schneider (55), and the rest of the field. With five laps remaining in the event, Schneider’s (56) lead had grown to a six-and-a-half-second advantage. The race appeared to be over and the field was coming to the checkered flag. However, the event’s only caution would come on lap 29 which slowed the pace and forced a rerack of the field for a two-lap shootout. When green replaced yellow, Schneider (56) quickly regained control of the lead and drove straight to victory lane. Charlier (74) finished second, Schneider (55) finished third, Bish (11B) finished fourth, and Hunter Exley (23H) rounded out the top five. The heat race winners were: Schneider (55), Schneider (56), Bish (11B), and Charlier (74). Schneider (55) won the dash, and Larry Kugel (0) won the b main. The hard charger went to AJ Poljack (36).

Major props to Daryl Charlier on his career-best 2nd place finish. I know how bad you want that win buddy and you’ve never been closer.

All of the heat race winners and fast dash participants received their cash last night. Same for fast-time Christian Schneider, hard charger AJ Poljak, and hard luck (running 3rd on the last lap and having the RR explode during his career-best run for Steve D'Apolito. The first DNQ was Joe Kelley and the halfway leader was Christian receiving the $100 Joel Smith CRS gift cards. The best appearing car as chosen by Connor was Josh Seippel.

Rookie of the race was Brandon Connor, and Christian also received an extra $100 as a first-time winner and $122 for leading lap 22. Bonuses were also gained by finishing 11th, $111 to Jason M Fosnaught, and $100 for $13th to Josh Seippel. All of that money will be in your checks from the track.

I owe Jacob Billyk the $100 gift card for the first DNF in the A Main, messaged you to get it to you this coming Saturday.

In the Rohrich Auto/Chevy Performance RUSH Late Model 20-lap feature, Cole Petrelle (184), from Follansbee, West Virginia, started on the pole with Zach Gunn (17G)(, from McDonald, to his outside. Ben Policz (14B) would start third, and Brian Huchko (60H), from McDonald, would start on the outside of the second row. When the green flag waved, Petrelle (184) would come away with the early lead with Policz (14B) moving into second by lap three. Policz (14B) would make his move on lap seven to take over the lead. A caution would come on lap 12 as Petrelle (184) had fallen off the pace. Policz (14B) would choose the outside on the restart and go on to lead the remaining eight laps in the event, en route to another Rohirich Automotive/Chevrolet Performance RUSH Late Model win. Z. Gunn (17G) finished second, Brandon Burgoon (60) finished third, Jake Gunn (14G) finished fourth, and Mike Reft (9R) completed the top five. The heat race winners were Policz (14B) and Huchko (60H).

Matt Benard (14), from Oakdale, would start on the pole in the Fuel Required Hobby Stock feature with Leroy Brown (40B), from Aliquippa to his outside starting in second. Gary Koteles (65K), from Stockdale, would start in third, and Tom Anton (64), from Jefferson Hills, started in fourth. At the start of the event, Benard (14) would take the early lead with Brown (40B) in tow. By the end of lap two, sixth-starting Logan Koteles (64K) had already made his way into third place. L. Koteles (64K) would take over the lead on lap four and he would enter lapped traffic on lap nine. With the race going green to checkered in record fashion, L. Koteles (64K) would cruise to his third Fuel Required Hobby Stock win in a row. Jonathan Koteles (2K) finished second, Brown (40B) finished third, Benard (14) finished fourth, and Anton (64) completed the top five. The heat race winners were L. Koteles (64K) and Benard (14).

In the Crawford Auto Repair Open Four Cylinder 12-lap feature, Jacob Chipps (38C), from New Cumberland, West Virginia started on the pole. Starting to his outside and in second was Noah Bubeck (187), from Colliers, West Virginia. Carson Smith (83), from McDonald, would start third, and John Gill (19G), would complete the top two starting rows. When the green flag dropped, Chipps (38C), Gill (19G), and Bubeck (187) would battle three-wide for the lead as they drove through turn two. The first caution would come on lap two with Chipps (38C) keeping his lead over the field when green replaced yellow. The pace would slow once again on lap five for another caution. Bubeck (187) was sent to the pits for rough driving. After a few “no-starts” called by race officials, Gill (19G) would take over the lead when they returned to green flag conditions. Gill (19G) would lead the remaining laps of the event and go on to pick up the win. He was followed by Tyler Hollister (69) in second, Cameron Hollister (44) in third, Bill Tennant (2) in fourth, and Smith (83) completed the top five. The Open Four Cylinders did not run a heat race.

AJ Manganello (50) would start on the pole in the 12-lap All Ways Safe Flagging And Traffic Control Young Guns feature. Anthony Udderstrom (18), from Pittsburgh, would start to the outside and in second while Sadie Snatchko (56), from Oakdale, would start in third, and Nathan Olenik (99), from Crescent, would complete the top two starting rows. At the start of the event, Manganello (50) would jump out to the early lead with Snatchko (56) in tow. Gavin Kokolis (91), from Oakdale, would take over third on lap three, and on the same lap, the event’s first caution would slow the pace. On the restart, Manganello (50) would keep his lead over the field. Manganello (50) would lead all of the remaining laps in the event and go on to pick up the win. Kokolis (91) finished second, Snatchko (56) finished third, Hunter Vohn (124) finished fourth, and Olenik (99) rounded out the top five. The Young Guns did not run a heat race.

Racing resumes at Dirt’s Monster Half Mile on Saturday, June 15th, 2024, for the first round of the three-race Stephen W. Johnson Triple Crown Series for the Fuel Required Hobby Stocks! Also on the card are the RUSH Sportsman Modifieds, the Rohrich Automotive/Chevrolet Performance RUSH Late Models, the Pittsburgh Trucking Center Penn Ohio Pro Stocks, the Crawford Auto Repair Open Four Cylinders, and the All Ways Safe Flagging and Traffic Control Young Guns.
